That would be really helpful, thank you. My stove was lit last night, too and also with wood.
There's a metric tonne of Newflame stacked by my logstore (bought via a coal merchant advertising on eBay at a price that would make CPL scream). Despite all that, a bad winter and I might be casting around for more and this No 5 stuff sounds interesting.0 -
Now that I've had gas CH in this year, I'm now starting to miss the whole buying coke and lighting a roaring fire on a cold winters day. I miss my Parkray
On the brightside, I'm going to look into getting a multifuel stove in hopefully for next winter when I've finished sorting this house out. So I can get back to lighting fires.0 -
Right as promised here is a quick (after 3 hours or so) review of No5.
It's obviously not comprehensive but it should give you guys something work with.
Initial impressions of the actual fuel itself visually are it's pretty dense, doesn't have a lot of "dust" but oddly it appears to be two different shapes and sizes.
The larger is more oval and closer to the eggs you get from homefire although not quite as large.
The smaller is more akin to stoveheat in terms of shape and size.
If someone put a gun to my head I'd suggest it probably is the same as the smokeless sold as stoveheat.
Using No5:-
There isn't really a way around saying this.
It was an utter swine to get started.
It's about the second hardest smokeless fuel i've ever tried in regards to getting it to "take".
However, once it's lit it produces pretty decent heat.
It seems to be lasting well. I'll obviously be able to say more in a few more hours.
It also doesn't appear to be producing a large amount of ash and, surprisingly, it actually has some sort of flame picture.
I wouldn't say this is a hugely scientific test but, aside from getting it going, so far it seems like pretty reasonable value for money.
Hope it helps.0 -
I had a call from this company last week, they said I could sample a free 10kg bag of smokeless coal and they would drop it off at my door.
That sounds like a good offer said I and sure enough a few days later the bag was delivered to my door.
Put some on my already burning wood logs and was pleasantly surprised by the heat output from it, the flame and slumbering time once the flame had gone.
Lit the fire the following day with kindling and logs, put more No5 on and after about 15 minutes the coal was burning nicely.
I will be buying more of it and they have offered 15% off my first order (new customer perk)
Well pleased with it.0
