Tesco 2 for ... (overcharged)

Stoke
Just trying to find out my rights. Popped into the local 24 hour tesco about an hour ago. For the last month or so, they've had vegetable oil in 5 litre pets on 2 for £8. This offer has been extended to the 2nd of July according to their website and the yellow buy 2 for ... tags were still on the shelf.
Walked in, picked up four pets, a few crates of beer and some other bits and bobs. Their self-service machines weren't working, which is what I usually use so I can think straight without talking to anyone, I had to go via a cashier who was far more interested talking to me about my shirt and how he used to watch them before they retired (names of various ex-Stoke players who played for England). Unfortunately, this momentary distraction has resulted in the veg oil pets being charged at full price and I only realized this when I got home.
Is it caveat emptor? I obviously have the receipt otherwise I wouldn't have known I had been overcharged, it's dated and time so I can obviously prove there has been a mistake!
Thoughts?

Have you asked the store if they will correct the mistake?0

Legally, offer and acceptance has occurred, the contract is concluded and there's very little you can do.
However, as frugal_mike says, talk to them. I'd expect them to sort it out.0 -
Where is this Tesco that you can buy beer in at midnight?0

In the big stores the full price is charged as the items go through the checkout and the reduction appears as an adjustment on the bottom of the till roll. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
I'm sure the customer service desk will refund the difference. I'm intrigued as to who would need 20 litres of veg oil at midnight, do you run a greasy spoon or did your partner fancy a bit of late night oil wrestling?0

Good point - OP, are you 100% sure that the discount hasn't been taken off when the total is calculated ? If it hasn't, I suggest going back with the receipt and one of the product and asking customer services to correct it - I've never had a problem with them accepting any errors and correcting them.0 -
