Nice People 12: Nice in Nice

I went to the cabinet war rooms once, undercover ironically enough
. Had never occurred to me to visit before them (prefer art and sciency museums really), but it was fascinating. A real sense of history. The little cafe was very nice too
I went on a GCSE school trip, and then to an evening legal party a couple of years ago, which was fun....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I suspect today is not the right day to say that there is another country where your choice of food and culture would be immense.
Hehe. We were there just over a year ago for a friend's daughter's wedding. It's a 4 to 5 hour flight, plus lengthy check-in. We took a night flight last time, which was fine for DW, who sleeps anywhere. It's a fantastic talent she has. I can't sleep on a plane, unfortunately.
The friend emailed me this evening as follows:
"I was walking home from a folk- music concert at ten o'clock this evening, and the sirens went off.
I had not heard any news during the day. [I read the newspapers once a day, and that is it..]
I looked at my watch, and thought, 'hmmm, ten o'clock, is it a practice ? but it is ten at night, not in the morning, so what is it all about ???'
After the sirens stopped I heard two bangs.
I saw three people sheltering under an overhang of the local Yeshiva, and I went up to them, and I asked them if it was real, were the sirens real ? And they answered 'yes'. We had all heard the bangs. They up-dated me about the news. We waited for some minutes, some other youths joined us, and then I decided to continue to walk home.
My daughters phoned me before I got home, to ask if I was all right.
I went to our lovely downstairs neighbours for a chat about it all, [ apparently two bombs fell near Jerusalem, but not in the town ] and then went upstairs and had a double whisky. That helped a lot."
I've never been under fire, but it must be nerve-racking, even if it's not very accurate fire. Another friend reports that it's not so much the worry of being hit as the annoyance factor of having to run for the shelter ten times a day. He lives in Ashkelon, which is about 5 miles from Gaza, as the crow/missile flies.
I certainly hope the Israelis don't invade Gaza again. The whole situation is an awful mess on all sides. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

The reason they save loads of time is that they just grab dirt, grease, stains, etc and get rid. You rarely need to use cleaning stuff (very MSE, as well as reducing chemicals at home) and even hot water and cloth will clean a hob, for example.
Ah, OK, I'll give them a go. I just thought they were "just another cloth".
I generally don't have dirt, grease, stains etc .... and I've always had a squirt of anti-bac spray and some kitchen paper to get rid of them0 -
Employability? Interest?
I took a humanities degree when DS arrived. Learned about all sorts of interesting stuff, but not as useful in an employment capacity as the science I'd studied before. I'm a fan of degrees that mix sciences and humanities, as my first degree went that way.
I don't even know what humanities is/are..... I'll have to Google that word.
My one A level is, unsurprisingly, Computer Science ... and from 1994.0 -

Nothing crossed. It's happening! Will you disappear offline at home for a bit or are you maintaining contact with the mothership throughout?
Congratulations. I hope the G&T is ready for the GT.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Tomorrow morning I might be "absent" as I'll be busy .... but once I can get my laptop plugged in, BT willing, I'll be back before you know it. I'e a smartphone, but not tested signal there .... and I am so slow on it anyway that I usually don't use it for here.0 -
Morning Pastures, haven't crossed anything, but hope that the next few days go really well for you.

I'd pretty much got most of the shower enclosure looking great ..... just had a shower this morning, wiped it down.... came away, got dressed. Just gone back in there and it looks pretty much the same as it did before I started all the cleaning
Definitely a job solely for after "the very last shower" ......!!
What a nuisance.0
