There is evidence that nuns menstruate around the same time as do women who live in the same house sometimes. So likely that people can influence each other, but I don't reckon the moon has anything to do with it.

This certainly happened at both my school at in flat share. Was useful for me.

How do you leave that when you are absent? Are the curtains open, advertising it's empty? Or do you stick up nets when you're not in residence?

I'd leave it open as normal daytime with timers on a lamp or two.

Usually leave the curtains open. No nets. There is really nothing of any value in the house.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

There are herds of caribou IIRC that manage all to give birth within a period of a couple of days. Although they cannot protect their very young calves very well, the predators can only eat a few during the short period until the calves are bigger and stronger.

Maybe the alignment of menstrual cycles of women living together has the same reason?

But once it gets dark, with the lights on, they can see it's empty - and if the lights are off, again, it looks empty as they can still see the curtains are open.

Furniture, pipes, boiler ...? Free place to kip for a month or two - and throw a party?

I haven't closed my curtains most of summer. :o. I like seeing dawn.

In winter i do for heating and privacy, and in winter I love the ritual of it, in summer, not so much.

Neighbours and good relations are best defence IMO.

Furniture is of no great value. For example, the living room furniture was given to us by some folks we know. They had been given it by the Salvation Army!

There is no boiler, so very little copper pipe work.

Friends or neighbours would call the police if it were squatted.

We have had it in the family since 1973 and it has never been broken into. Fortunately.
