Bit extreme to start looking at new cars without even getting the old one looked at yet. You reckon that if you scare it enough it may decide to start working again? In that case you should take the ipad outside and show it pictures of breakers yards.

I know you're not going to rush out and pop the hood .... but if there's no click then my first thought would be whether the battery terminals were tight enough .... then if the earthing strap was still connected .... then (if possible) check the water/acid levels inside the battery. After that it'd be the alternator I'd be heading for: is it connected, are the wires loose/look OK, or had it died.

Battery terminals are tight, first thing checked this morning. Infact, there is another issue there, but not pressing. But slightly annoying.
    Fluid levels fine too.

Not sure about alternator. This is a fairly new ish vehicle ( y reg) and ever think is all neat in there so not sure what is what compared to my other cars apart forM THe ford, whoch was less neat .

But yeah, alternator had occurred to me.

I'm leaving it charging till lunch time ( though my charger says its charged) just in case, then I'll call garage.

Unless its a very small bill its not worth fixing this car. Its really on last legs.

Sue, this is a small four by four, and not up to the work we asked of it. Ideal for up our stuff is a defender, but not ideal for our road stuff. Its really annoying.

I don't really want an auto either.

I am embarrassed to admit that often I bundle hair um out of shower and forget about it and it can be damp a couple of days later :o

Not good for it I imagine.

    Doesn't do mine any harm1

Car, might not be anything drastic, wouldn't worry about it until it's been seen.

Best wishes to Spirit - is she still in hospital?

    Yeah, it's a little man job :)

If the battery charger says the battery's charged, then I'd tend to believe it (on the balance of probability that two different faults of equipment don't often occur simultaneously).

Could be a loose wire in the ignition wiring, possibly in the bit you stick the key into .... or a fuse has blown so the instruction to switch it on never reaches the starter motor.

It's good to have basic knowledge, guesses.... but it's even better if there's a little man :)

Not sure whether spirit has been discharged or not. My guess is she's being treated like royalty. :D

ATM I have two modes of thought 'not very bothered' or 'very bothered' ( whether that's negatively or positively). I'm getting better though. :)

I spoke to mechanic ( who lives in one of the villages, even though garage is in town) and he said he'll come round tonight after his supper to have a look, and sort me put with a car by Wednesday.

So I was just about to condense errands into a list when RP has decided to depart to day ( there is more to this that I'm not going into) so if I don't have it now I'm not getting it until Wednesday.

Main thing I am worried about is razor blades. ...and I'll have to be a little mean with milk for the landscaper, be cause I can go without but he cannot.

With due respect, you need to calm down and think productively.

Landscaper – ask him to bring up a pint of milk for his tea next time he comes, and say you will reimburse him.

Would it be an embarrassment to ask him to pick up razorblades at the same time?

Car – it will be even more of a catastrophe if this problem occurs whilst you are away from home. So, you need a decent breakdown service – not the one that MichaelS used. Whilst not by any means the most cost-effective, the AA and the RAC both use their own networks of vans. I would suggest that for you in particular this would be a luxury worth paying for.

I appear calm to those here, if that helps, only np's see the fluttering.

I think I have enough just for him, its lactose free. If not I'll get some from my neighbours, but not the way we would drink it. For us we never run out of milk, lol.

    yes

I get it with my car insurance.

Yes, but mechanic will bring me a car for then, he's promised me. That car should be an adventure.

Razor problem I have solved. I should think RP will have a spare.

I am calm ish, in that tbh, if I went now to hospital nothing dreadful would happen, and I can worst comes to worse go online to morrow morning and hire a car. ( god no, not that search again)

    I just flapping.

Razor blades as in the old fashioned double edge ones? I've got loads. Was trying to flog them on ebay. I'll happily send you some!
