I think, for fuel, there's some gadget you can slip inside your filler tube that stops that.... not looked into it as I always repeat it to myself 2-3x and read the pump 3x and follow the pipe from machine down to the nozzle in my hand ..... to check .... (in case some joker's switched nozzles between pumps) .... before I put it in the car.0 -
I'm watching the show jumping. The competitor who just rode is 67. I think that's incredible. Lots of show jumpers are middle aged ( and many are the least fit of professional equestrians ) but still, to have the nerve and joints after a lifetime of riding ( and accidents) for top level competition is impressive. My gr. Grandmother had to be forced to stop backing and bringing on horses older, but she wasn't jumping like that.0

My best friend's dad lost his battle with the melanoma. Too young.
I can't leave here, so I feel rather useless.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Lovely flowers, and a lovely thought!
Who is holding them, by the way?
That's me. Oh, I do believe you can see one of my double jointed thumbs in action in it!OH took the photo, but he doesn't have a Flickr account (Yet - am trying to persuade him it's a good idea!).

I've never had such a grim year for them in my life.. One measly germination. Not something I have ever had a problem with before. Its these silly late germinations. Early works for me every time.
I was very late planting the seed, so those flowers are some of the first this year. I suspect the hot and dry wasn't good - I've been trying to persuade OH to water them almost every day, as there's 7 plants crammed into a giant pot. But they've grown so thickly that even if it rains they don't get much water as there's so much leaf! I'm thinking I'll try some autumn seed planting this year, but better get organised on buying more seed! I have some of the Cupani left, and fewer of the Parfumier mix that are outside our front door in another humungous pot (though suspect those will be dead when we go home). But I might go a bit mad at the allotment!lostinrates wrote: »
I think wishing her strength and health and some of the oomph of her fighting 'spirit'might be important.
I'm definitely up for it - you know me and The Vibes! :rotfl: Seriously though, having people Vibing for me has really helped me through some tough times and difficult meetings (thinking DLA tribunal here - it really gave me the strength to go through with it, and it was really awful, but they did give me DLA at the end). So my personal experience is that Vibes (of whatever variety, and whatever you call them) make a huge difference.
Better catch up on the rest of the thread now to see if any consensus has been reached about further details!0 -

Oh Doozergirl, so very sorry to hear that. And I'm sure you're not useless even though you might feel that way since you can't go to your friend. Hugs to you, and condolences to your friend. It's very horrid losing a parent (at least mine made it to 89 so I kinda felt they had a fair innings which helped), to lose one at a "Too young" age seems much worse to me.0 -

If you have a petrol car, it's foolproof. The diesel nozzle is too big to fit.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Keep thinking of Spirit, and worry not to have heard. Hopefully, she is just suffering from a flat battery in her phone. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Knowing that people are supporting you through whatever is a very powerful thing.
I got a mini round of applause in the office this afternoon for my writing efforts today. Not sure I'd done quite enough to merit that, but it was quite nice all the same(as, of course is all the encouragement I get from you guys - it plays a huge part in keeping me going).

I think she'll be tired, and emotional and probably being strictly monitored by a loving family and concerned medical team. ( I think her family might even be a bit cross if she prioritised getting to us right now)
I did send an email to her and said that of her husband /dd were picking up mail for her my offer to dog sit/chicken sit/fill freezer etc was there,( cos, obviously they might not know how to find nice people though they know about us).
All we can do is send good wishes and love and hope I think.0 -
Gravel might be better than grass with a smallish garden for a dog pn. Other wise they'd have mainly mud. One of things I'm looking forward to with a paved garden is somewhere I can pop dogs out for a widdley wee without too much drama and no mopping. ( though kiwi hates a towelling down too.)0
