That's why I bought "almost new" ... as for the 2nd part, it never happened..... those with others, even half-time, or on tap, can't appreciate how awful it is when everything's always, entirely, up to you.

I've been tidying. God this place is a tip. Also went outside to water the plants and it's awful out there too. Ended up spraying some of the many weeds in the patio (they are huge again). Tonight I would like to be living in a house that is 'done'. With someone else to help with things.

My eye has also been running today. I think my mood might have darkened to match it :(

Hugs to both of you. I get it. I feel like that too.

I know it's different because I'm not exactly alone in my house, but it is still always entirely up to me, and sometimes as hard as I try to make progress, the shorter people in this house just undo what I've done. So I think I get part of what it's like for you two.

So, as I say, hugs to both of you. :grouphug:

I couldn't do it if I was solo.

Thank you. You have no idea how much less useless that makes me feel. :)

Phew. Caught up. Have been reading a bit on my phone on the train, but replying is too difficult on such a small screen that isn't staying entirely still as the train moves.

Thank you very much for all the lovely birthday wishes. My bro and sil did a delightful birthday dinner for me last night, so I felt it was a good birthday. :D

The inquest is going OK for me. We have had three days of it now, and are having a break for the rest of the week because the other witnesses aren't available until next week. Monday's the bank holiday so we resume on Tuesday. I am confident it will not extend into the third week.

The coroner says there were originally supposed to be about 20 barristers attending and asking questions, so he had to leave space in the schedule for lots of question asking time. In fact, he's reduced the scope of the inquest, and I've settled my major claim, and for all I know some other people have settled theirs too. So my barrister's not here, and several others have come with just a watching brief because the bits that particularly affect their clients are now not within the scope of the inquest and will have to wait for the litigation. So the question times are quite short with only 3 counsel asking questions and we are racing through everything much faster than anticipated. :)

DD is missing me very much and keeps ringing me up in the mornings and evenings when I'm on the train, or at bed time. I haven't told her I'm coming home tonight. I'm visiting friends up here this evening, so won't get home until after she's in bed, so I hope she'll have a lovely surprise when she wakes up and finds I'm home. :)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I love the idea of surprising the sunshine girl.

Do you know yet when she gets her help with the 'stuff' keeping?

I have a friend who has students like that. It's a lot of work. It's OK for her because she only does a few odd bits and pieces of work otherwise, but it's not remotely suitable for somebody who works full time doing something demanding as you do. You can tell your OH that I said so if you like.

    Ooops - we just do:
First day a quick tour - here is bus stop, here is station, here is school, here is supermarket. Is there anything we are buying you won't eat?
    Help yourself to breakfast
Dinner time is 6.30 let us know if you will be there / want us to put something aside for later. Menu is we just cook more of what we were cooking anyway.
Come and go whenever you want, if you come home after midnight please get a taxi as the street lights are turned off

In reality it is less hassle than having the 3 kids as the students play with the kids, help clear the table etc.

Advice time: Finally received 2nd quote for front door. Good job I was sat down when I opened it! Ouch.

If it came down to what I was offered, 2nd bloke would get the job - he apparently actually makes the door, which means it can have things like laminated glass and multi-point locking. Which I like the sound of a lot (plus I think there is more scope to avoid offensive glass designs...).

BUT... it took a while to get him here. And phone call to chase the quote. And that's before addressing the pricey quote. 1st door man came round exactly when promised and just generally seemed nice.

So... I am thinking I need to speak to Door man the 2nd. Ask him about the number he's come up with (significantly above the ballpark figure he mentioned when I asked him to come round to quote), and possibly to be blunt and check if he actually doesn't really want the job.

Whilst I like a bargain more than most, I've never actually bartered/ negotiated down a quote. It is expected that I'll try and query the price, right?
