I've unearthed a pair of good quality but awful coloured yellow cotton sheets at the back of my airing cupboard and wonder if there's any way of leaching some of the colour of of them. If I soaked them overnight in a heavy bleach mixture, would this work? All our bed linen is white now. I doubt whether I could achieve that end result but any suggestions which would lighten the colour would be appreciated..
I dyed an old white cotton sheet blue for a costume. DD then wanted it, but it needed to be green. I bleached the sheet, and it took most of the colour out, but it wasn't brilliant white again - just looked grubbyOf course, that wasn't a problem in this case

Just be careful not to make the bleach solution too strong or the material will disintegrate into holes.0

I was reading a fun book the other week and the chracter in it cleaned an old 60's wedding dress stained clean with bicarbonate of soda. No idea if it would work with your stain but have a google and find out.0

Well, it's back to the drawing board as far as using bleach is concerned. I soaked one sheet in a heavy bleach solution for about 12 hours as a experiment. It must have been a really effective dye because I've now removed the sheet from the bowl and can hardly notice any difference. At least if there has been any fading, it has happened evenly throughout with no blotches or streaks.0

Hi Primrose:hello:
Sorry to hear that didn't work for you! There is a thread about bleaching clothes and sheets, so I have added your thread to that one to keep the ideas together.
Do read back and see if there are any other suggestions
Thanks:)

Primrose if those sheets aren't 100% cotton then the pigment could be part of the textile and cannot be removed. I know this, because I've tried to bleach a polyester/cotton blend myself and the colour wouldn't budge0
