Have you tried just washing the t-shirt? if the dye is so 'mobile' it might just move again

I've tried handwashing it. I might try that again.

I only have laundrette facilities here so to wash it on its own is a bit of a pain.

I bought a box of "Colour Catchers" from Tesco. It is a little sheet that you pop in the machine with your clothes. My daughter has a white t-shirt with red trim. Foolishly I thought it would be safe. The red has bled into the t-shirt although strangely not into the other whites. The t-shirt became almost pink instead of white. Earlier this week I put a colour catcher into the wash, to make sure really that none of the other whites got spoilt. The colour catcher came out red and my daughter's "pink" t-shirt is now white again. That was a much better result than I could have hoped for.
I have used these colour catchers before, mainly as a preventative measure, I also gave some to my son when he went off to uni (I just knew that he would bung all his wash in the machine regardless of colour) I didn't know that they might restore a mistake, you did well with that!

Depends on what you're bleaching and how "green" you are. I like to use ecover laundry bleach in the washing machine, and find it works really well.

I've never "bleached" my white laundry and my whites are still white, just wash them all together with no colours (obviously) I don't think you can use normal household bleach though as I *think* this rots fabric over time.

I hate clothes that are white with another colour - navy collar and sleeves etc.

Never know what to do with them !

I know it may not be very 'green', but I love my whites to be white and keep them that way by doing a hot wash with a bleach pre-wash. I use tesco value bleach and pour it free-hand into the dispenser as the water runs in. It works a treat and keeps the kids school shirts white enough to be passed down. I have never had any problem with bleach 'rotting' the clothes. I do wait for a full load to run!

Now I think about it, the clothes that used to rot were work t-shirts. We had to wash machines down with bleach at the end of the day and inevitably I splashed myself. The shirts would then sit in the washing basket till the end of the week, when I washed my work stuff altogether so the bleach didn't get washed off straightaway. After just a few washes the fronts of the shirts would go holey where the bleach marks were.

So I can just put some normal household liquid bleach into the washing machine dispenser, say where I would normally put the fabric softener? (front-loader machine) - (DONT laugh people - I'm not blonde, just really uhm... 'unexperienced') just checking, as I thought i would do this, but i have to be careful, dont want any bleach stuck somewhere and the next person's black washing to come out white as well!! that would just be nasty!!

I have a nice pair of white pants that now still have a brown stain on the back after I've washed in a white-only load! (brown stain=from where i was sitting on a wood bench on the weekend, just in case u were wondering!)
