These are the ones I am going to implement immediately.:)

    10. I use 1 tablespoon of washing up powder to wash clothes. NEVER EVER just pour it in!

    11. One tablespoon of softener is sufficient as well.

    12. One teaspoon of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) in the washing machine.

    21. Sports drinks... make your own healthy electrolyte drink. Half a lime juiced, an orange juiced, 1 teaspoon honey, pinch of salt in a normal sports water bottle... top up with water and shake it well.

    26. We have a spray bottle which has quarter distilled vinegar and the rest water with a few drops of lemon essential oil in it. We use this to clean everything in the house and it costs us pennies compared with other cleaners... also uses much less space!

    46. When you 'think' you have finished the toothpaste run some warm water over the tube and more will come!

    47. Cut open the toothpaste tube with scissors and you will be able to scrape out 2-4 more lots of paste

    61. Start using cash again. We have a 'living pot' we put in X amount of money into this pot every single month on pay day. This is for odds and sods that aren't really bills and for fun things we want to do. Only we write everything down we buy and ledger what goes in and out. By doing this we can see if we buy too much crap of one thing to reduce it the next month if we need to.

    67. When getting hot water put a big pan under the tap while it's heating up. Keep this and then use it for watering plants or cleaning with.

    70. Holidays. You don't need to go the other end of the world to have a good holiday. www.holidaydiscountcentre.co.uk best thing I found! We got 3 weeks in Turkey, flights, in meals, luggage, reserved seating, hotel 4star, transfers all for £550 May 2015! That's not each by the way that's full price for 2 AHsJFJhC1JVdTiwNFHjIzQRYghQooATggIBTTTRlyNVL0Z4COQLoGuCnQgAduFxBEWgoDaMibGzFWSPmU4csj+wM1PKj1okIIUjp6WEESB+BGGKhQHUrj5U6CaosGTVmjgxZfDhtogIpxgAJAgBgmZTpC5kNAxkcmaIq1B1PgSotWCgQzyIagHx4afCnFZqFdF5IKWCKgGENQxAxKdGi1yBCpWrMCCDCAC0TAdrsuGRDyAcYFIJ0QSDAAIIEiQBEYpWEh5JXTySZAQBmxYADD8KQaOQCTi8cXFZ5cGRBDYRUZd6AuiFnIIhOW1QQucCBFxJMLM7QFTgiioNZheYuAgwIADs=They also let you pay monthly with no interest. This makes it feel much more manageable. Spread over 10-12 months it's not a lot.

How you gotten on with these?

    78. GUYS - again... those of you who dye your hair don't buy mens hair dye. It costs loads more and you get less stuff! Stop being so vain! Buy the womens at cheaper price, halve the ingredients in each and mix in separate bottle. Use it and store the other half for your next treatments. It's all the same ingredients. It's just a marketing technique to exploit men who don't want to be seen wandering about with a box of dye with a womans face on it!

Hilarious :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Looking forward to seeing you on the make £10 a day thread or maybe we should call it save £10 a day for you.
Some great ideas and very good luck to you

I tried it and found it too hard. I'm a better scrimper/saver than earner I thinks :O

jasX avocados with strawbs and blackpepper is gorgeous too. Will try with the feta.

I often wondered about not washing my hair, it goes pretty manky after the third day - I'd ahve to try it away from work. I don't wash my dogs fur and they actually smell lovely and their fur is beautifully soft and fluffy.

After a few weeks of not washing your hair becomes so healthy. It's now been almost 4 months since I stopped.

Some things have changed since this post that have helped me become even more frugal.

    102. Became Vegan eating lots of fruit, veg, salads, pulses, grains, beans etc. Saving a fortune on not eating meat... infact so much that I now get a local organic box scheme delivery.

    103. When using public toilets use half the amount you normally would then take the other half home with you. It'll do one good turn. Also not technically classed as theft if you kept half of what you was going to use.

    104. Took bulbs out of fridge and oven lol.

There's loads more but can't think right now.

RE: turning off everything in the house at night except the fridge/freezer.

I used to get fed up with going round the house every night doing this and always forgot some things. Then I had the bright idea of swapping the fridge/freezer plug into the socket attached to the cooker switch in the kitchen as it's on a separate circuit to all the other sockets in the house. After figuring out which of the switches on the main fuse board was for all the other sockets, I just switch that off every night.

Wouldn't work for everyone I know - we don't have any mains powered digital clocks for instance, we have a street light near our bedroom window which gives enough light to get into bed by and the main fusebox is easily accessible and located opposite our bedroom door and, obviously, we have a plug socket built in to our cooker switch - but worth looking to see if it would work for you as it's the most efficient way to absolutely know that everything is off except the fridge :).

Only just stumbled across this post but some good ideas, thanks.

We already do some of the things on the list and agree on making your own wine and beer/cider. We have been picking shedloads of blackberries for wine, will be onto elderberries very soon. Last year we had just over 100 bottles of home brew. Think we're up to about 40 this year.

We have neighbours with an apple and a pear tree who never pick them so we do on our way past. Good for making free desserts, just need crumble topping and bobs your uncle :D

Home made bread, mmmmm, and its much more filling.

We got a halogen oven for Christmas which is great. Hardly use the other oven now and this thing cooks food quicker, reducing bills, plus no need to cĺean the oven so much anymore ;)

Old t-shirts get ripped up for dusters. Never tried underpants though, lol.

I'm another who couldnt ditch the shampoo though. Tried once and lasted 6 days before I couldn't get a brush through it. Looked like Wurzel Gummidge haha

Benefit of living in a studio. We pretty much only power a PC (which we are soon to replace to a much lower W laptop), monitor, speakers and lamp. We Philips phone when PC is on via USB. Then in kitchen we have oven, fridge and travel kettle. That's it. We don't use anything else. No microwave, no toaster, no pads and other useless pieces of crap that just sponge on the energy. We don't have kids so we have no reason to be 'in with the times' lol. Mainly just read here to pass our time. Not had a TV in about 8 years now.

Fridge freezer will be going off in winter. We don't have anything in the freezer except bottles of water as all the food we buy is fresh produce. In winter it's cool enough for our weekly produce to be outside. So in winter I'll just switch everything off at the mains when leaving for college or volunteering. :)

    :P

Yes yes yes! We have all the equipment not so it's pretty cheap. We are out today for loads of blackberries to make beers and elderberries to make others beers for Xmas :D I don't drink myself anymore. I quit 2 months ago as I'm intolerant to it... great excuse to save money too :D

Actually use it for drinks. We don't use milk anymore we have our hot drinks without milk. Though we used to water down the whole milk. Semi and skimmed milk are just watered down milk anyway.

You're reducing the nutritional value of the milk by watering down so it's not ideal!
