The Scottish First minister has asked for a debate, so I would look forward to what each leader would put forward for the debate.

He only wants to debate with Cameron though. Not another Scottish person. Ask yourself why.

The tories haven't been in favour for some time in Scotland. Salmond sees an English Tory as as the perfect 'us v them' debate. He's not so keen to debate with Allister Darling is he?

Now, we know Darling is scottish and Labour, but how did Nicola Sturgeon describe him? - Cameron's Tory substitute!

That's the SNP agenda in a nutshell - us v them.

I didn't ask whether you happened to agree with certain EU policies but whether you wanted to retain your independence to determine your own future policies....

Over in Wales, Plaid's objective is to secure 'independence for Wales in Europe', or something like that. Which sort of makes sense, particularly for a small nation. I'm not that convinced that the SNP have quite got their heads around the concept.

I see why you would think and try to engage in an us and them theory, however, regardless of which political party was in power, there would need to be a negotiation post positive independence referendum result.

Cameron and Salmond managed to discuss and agree the Edinburgh agreement, hence why it's natural that the Leader of Scotland should wish to have a frank and open debate with the Leader of the UK on the benefits or not of Independence.

I understand he had agreed to have the debate with Darling after the commonwealth games.
    Darling was rejecting that date.
    Why?

You keep saying this, but that's up for negotiation. As previously mentioned, if you follow the border in a straight line from where it hits the coast, the fields are split.

You're quite right, the North East of England have some of the oil fields off it's coast.

    Why?

Because it wasn't within the 'anytime anyplace' statement Darling espoused when it all started! A own goal if there ever was one, but as he had little credibility to start with (as architect of the banking boom & bust as Chancellor) are folk so quick to forget his track record?

    It appears so!

Personally I don't think these TV debates contribute to sound decisions. People are declared winners or users not on the basis of their arguments but on their entertainment value.

This should be acknowledged as such in which case for entertainment reasons I suggest a TV debate between Salmond and Galloway.

They don't though, they claim that there will be an independence bonus.

I do hope that the scots won't vote based on a few thousand pound here or there, won't change their destiny based on the cost of a weekend away in Benidorm, but the Yes campaign think otherwise.

That's what both campaigns believe, I think it shows how much contempt politicians have for the voter, when they think that dangling a few thousand pounds can decide the most important vote in hundreds of years.

I'm voting YES because I believe it will change the political landscape in Scotland.

For years Labour, Conservative and LibDems have been identical on the big issues.... This will be a shot in the arm for all the parties and hopefully they can be reclaimed from the centre ground neo-liberals that have taken them over. Also the PR system is more engaging than the first past the post system which favours the established parties....

Salmond will wipe the floor with Darling......

Darling isn't well liked in Scotland, he's quite rightly seen as a New Labour stooge who helped Brown and Blair destroy the party.

It highlights how little you know of what's going on up here if you think Darling has traction because he's Scottish :rotfl:

so you are voting YES so there will be more extreme political parties rather than boring consensus middle of the road ones?
