Couch to 5k Running - Part Four Beginners Running

I really. can't see me being fit to do a 15k (or even a 5k if I'm honest
) by March 22nd. But, I will keep on trying.
I think maybe you should consider doing the 15k using walk/jog intervals.
After C25k, you'll only have about a month to get from 5k (or possibly less if you're going by time) to 15k. I think you'd be asking for injury if you aim to triple your mileage in a month.
Sorry to sound so negative, but been there, done that, hurt my ITB and was miserable.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

Next task: Lots and lots of DIY0 -
I think you're quite right with the walk/jog intervals!
I can't honestly see me ever being able to do a 15k without walking at some point!
I'm hopeful that the obstacles will assist with the not needing to run for a sustained 15k.
To be honest, my friend that suggested it to me is currently ill with the cold which is going around. I've had it too- for weeks! It is a pig to shift and I know she's ding no training at present because her chest is too bad. I might suggest that we train for some 5k runs, then work our way up from there until we are able to complete the Tough Mudder in September.
I have completed week 1 now for the C25K so will be moving onto week 2.
I have hit upon the brainwave of trying to do it during my hours break at work during my night shift. It will be dark and there won't be anyone around to stop me running. It should be doable to strip on and off and do the half hour with a quick rinse down in the loo before getting back to work!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
After posting a thread on this board a few days ago, asking about online fitness programs, I've decided to take the plunge and do c25k. Will be starting on Monday, but in the meantime I'm revisiting my old Pilates exercises that I haven't done for ages. I really do feel very unfit, but even after just a couple of days of the Pilates I feel there's hope at least!!
Will let you know how Monday goes...No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Did a run at 3 am yesterday and got drenched. Not running tonight as it's really busy and I need a sit down. I went back to the gym after yesterday's night shift and it's nearly ended me! I had to stop after 2 circuits instead of managing three.
I am on week 2 now and have done the first session of it.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

I started this today, I am unfit after a serious illness last year, but I managed the 1st day even though it was icy underfoot. I definitely felt invigorated afterwards and inspired to carry onDont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
I did it!!
After the first minute of running I was thinking 'What have I let myself in for?'
After the second minute of running I was thinking 'No really, what have I let myself in for?'
After the third minute I could see how this might be quite enjoyable, eventually.
Didn't really do much thinking at all during minutes 4,5 and 6.
Surprised to realise during minute 7 that I was well over half way and only had one more run to do.
Would like to say I enjoyed minute 8, but that wouldn't be true. But I did it. And I enjoyed being out in the open air, saw a merganser on the canal, got overtaken by a squirrel (shouldn't they be hibernating??), and saw some fish jumping!!
Off for a long hot soak in the bath followed by tea and bikkies. Looking forward to Wednesday.
One quick question - what do you wear to run in when it's cold? I had two pairs of socks on, jogging bottoms, a T-shirt under a sweatshirt under one of OH's sweatshirts, gloves and a woolly hat. I was really cold to begin with, but then got too hot - but couldn't take anything off as no-where to carry it.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Well done for getting moving. Sounds like you made a great start.
The rule is, dress for about 10 degrees warmer than it actually is. I wouldn't bother with gloves unless you can stuff them in your pockets when you get warm and wear a t-shirt and sweatshirt. When gets a bit warmer I wear a t-shirt and thin jersey that I can tie round my waist (which is difficult to do with a sweatshirt).0 -
Hi All!
Please can I join in? I've recently started c25k and today did day 1 of week 2. Im pleased to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be! I feel really flabby and out of shape since Christmas so I'm determined to stick with this and it's great to meet some like minded people!

Hi folks,
I started with C25K early in the autumn but holidays, injury and illness meant I ended up taking a rather long break from it after week 3. I'm back to work now and pretty much healthy again so I decided to start again and get back into a routine - I picked up on week 3 run 3 (where I left off) and found it ok so I'm going to carry on from there.
I'm using an app on my android phone and doing it by time rather than distance on a treadmill at the gym. I go quite slowly so I don't think I'll manage 5k at the end of the programme, but I'd like to carry on afterwards and aim to be able to do a 5k on 21st March. Hopefully that's realistic!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Well done for getting started. I do think that the one problem with C25K is that it assumes you'll be doing 5k in 30 minutes at the end and for those of us who can only just run for a minute at the beginning, I don't think that's very likely. My first 5k was 45 minutes (yes, I know, I could have just walked) and even now, a couple of years later, I do it in about 35 minutes and I doubt I'll get faster. So while you should run for time at the moment, be prepared to spend a week or so at the end of the programme actually getting up to 5k. Most people say not to worry about speed at all until you can run for half an hour or so comfortably0
