if they refuse you can ask them for a statement of reasons and how they came to the decision
you can also appeal the decision if you feel its wrong you do this through the Social Security and Child Support Tribunal

I applied for my daughter in April they replied back in May ( refused ) and now an 11 week wait for re-assessment. Good luck hope you get it.
JR4 did you get anywhere with reassessment,I'm along that path and they were doing a mandatory reconsideration it's called timescale meant to be 11 weeks it's been 12 weeks and just rang them and been told it's now a 26 week wait as so back logged so won't be this year:shocked::shocked:0 -
Hi Twinkle 40,
We got my daughters decision last Saturday we have been awarded lower care and mobility backed payed from April (when I first applied for it )but I am appealing the decision. I did e-mail my local MP and I do think this helped push the DLA into making a decision I also did keep phoning for updates but if can take a long time to get through. Good luck.0 -
My daughters claim was submitted in July - with as much evidence I had at hand. I expected months of waiting - yet before a month was out I noticed an odd payment in my bank, with DLA on it. Three days later my daughters award came through - high rate care & low rate mobility. I hope that this information might help. Good luck.0

I'm wondering because we were turned down in June and I asked for reconsideration this is the ones that are being held back ,initially told 11 weeks now 26 weeks,I'm not happy but there's nothing I can do about it.My daughters claim was submitted in July - with as much evidence I had at hand. Have you been put onto the reconsideration pile then JR4 I'm wondering if this is where the problem is it seems if it's a first claim they seem to be within the 12 weeks but if reconsideration it seems they are put aside and it's piling and piling up.Hi Twinkle 40,

Forgot to add I ring up every two weeks but it went from 11 weeks to now 26 weeks and not being dealt with this year, seems a complete mess and the system is letting people down.0 -
I did the mandatory reconsideration the day it was first refused they did quote 11 weeks I then got a letter telling me if was delayed and no time scale I then spoke to my local MP and within 4 weeks of him getting involved we got the answer. I must add though I don't even think they read the forms or even listened to me ( they phoned for more info on reconsideration ) as some of the reasons for only giving lower rate are completely wrong so I am now appealing the decision and it will take 6 months.0

I have had my reconsideration in from 20/02, so 29 weeks today!! Keep getting told the decision will be made any day now, shocking timescale! Calling them twice a week and getting the same script each time! A long waiting game! Good luck to all waiting x0
