Thanks to patchwork cat and the reference to the e-bug website.

I am definitely going with the moth larvae because although I have seen flies, I have also seen tiny white winged creatures and there is no smell. We do have lots of packets of flour etc so a big clean is now in order. I will also buy lots of storage jars so...
Does anyone know where I can get cheap storage jars which are not glass (cos of the little Bribris). I'm assuming Wilkinsons/woolies/Tesco but any other thoughts.

Also, I would suggest that none of you partake of mrs bribri's cakes and pastries for the next few weeks til the problem is eradicated.

Should be OK unless you're vegetarian.

Oh yuk! you need to tell her, and sort out this problem asap! if my hubby knew there were maggots in our home, and esp on a ceiling where they could fall down onto food etc-and he hadn't told me-i'd be getting a divorce! hehe!

    keely.

ps-ok a divorce is harsh...but he'd be in trouble, more so for not telling me!

For food containers, Poundland or any £1/99p shop.

Look in loft, as dead body + flies = maggots

  • ooooh horrid. The tiny white winged things sound like midges and they like mainly damp, dark, warm places, places with rotting veg or animal matter would be ideal for them too. They come from very tiny larvae and they must be coming from upstairs in the attic as I don,t think they can defy gravity:D .Can you feel the ceiling and see if its damp.I do think you have to go in to the attic though.:D

They could also be beetle larvae - they are like that too!

TBH there is little you can do about it apart from keep cleaning the kitchen ceiling and pack everything away in air tight storage. I dont think that an exterminator would bother to come out.

If you want to know what it is though why not contact your local council? They will send someone out FoC and then you can decide what needs to be done - if it is anything serious they can usually recommend the best course of action too.

    Good luck!

Darling let's experiment, I want you to wear this blindfold....:rotfl:

Maggots grow from fly eggs, not bacteria....flies lay their eggs in dead meat..maggots grow from the eggs...it takes a few days and there would be lots of them..
