Evening
After a bit of advice - apologies if it is a long one!
Purchased a brand new hyundai i10 end of January 2014.
Last month I start to hear a howling noise when in reverse. Doesn't matter if car is hot or cold. It is intermittent. Monitored it and on 10th June contact my local hyundai dealer.
They are unable to look at the car till the 19th June.
They take the car in and I mention it is also howling in 1st and the fault is more frequent.
Later in the day the dealer calls me to say that the car is fine and safe to drive but a new part is on back order and they will call me when part comes in...could be 2 days could be 2 weeks.
Being at work I couldn't really discuss so had the car delivered back to me.
On the Saturday I decide to go to the dealer to find out which part I am waiting on and find out it is a modified clutch as my one is failing.
Said how rubbish this was and how unhappy i was and basically told they would be in touch.
I contacted Hyundai Head Office and they open a case for investigation.
They call me today to say I did not authorise the gearbox to be removed and therefore no parts have been ordered!!
I am shaking with rage as I correct them on the order of events and they say they will call me back.
They do call me to apologise for being given the wrong info by the dealer and say they will try and sort me out with a hire car or courtesy car till my car is fixed...they are waiting for the dealer to confirm when the part will be with them.
I say again it's on back order and they can't/won't confirm a date.
Hyundai head office say they will ring me back. This was 1pm today and I'm still waiting for a call!
Frustrated is an understatement. Not happy driving my car and potential damage I am causing...also I don't feel safe...
So am I within my rights to reject and ask for a full refund, car is under 6 months and with such low mileage? Have read that I need to give them the right to repair but am frustrated with how long that is taking.
Any advice or comments gratefully received.

If its anything like my local Hyundai dealer they will sometimes do "warranty work" by buying the bits from their parts department and fitting them. Rather than involving Head Office - this could be the case with yours and why head office dont have any knowledge of it.0

This is interesting as head office said they should have opened a case on Thursday with them.
I just put it down to them being a pretty rubbish dealer and trying to fob me off cause I am female!!
Thank you0 -
Nah, Hyundai Head Office are pretty crap to be honest, which is why my local (family owned) dealer will just pay out of their own pockets to keep a customer smiling.0

Oh ok....i got that totally wrong in your case.
This customer ain't smiling yet!!0 -
No you have no right whatsoever to a replacement-all it needs is a new clutch.
If you feel that the dealers are dragging their feet then give them a deadline, or try a different dealer.
If they were to offer you a replacement then you'd have to make up the price difference-yours is now nearly 6 months old. But you can't reject a vehicle on the basis of a single component failure. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thankyou... Quick update...
Got stuck into hyundai hq who ( after I said I want to reject under sale of good act as not fit for purpose!) agreed I should not be driving and offered me a hire car till mine was fixed.
Once that was agreed the part came in the next day (funny how
Prior to that there was no estimated delivery date).
Then the car was booked in for a week later. I was happy as had my hire car... But then there was a cancelation so the new modified clutch was fitted the next day!
So far (touch wood) car has been fine.0 -
Well my i10 (Dec 2012) has just suffered clutch failure... 10600miles, 18months old. Dealer Ancasters of Croydon is already making noises about it not being covered by warranty and 'driving style'. This is despite me having videos of my driving from a car-cam. Clutch riding alledged, which I don't do.0

Make sure your dealer has logged the fault with hyundai head office
If not escalate it yourself. I can give you the number if required.
Once they are involved, things get moving and resolved quickly.
Hyundai are aware it is a common fault.
Good luck0 -
Are these the old style i10,s or the new shape0

I don't see what the big deal is with the ops problem. They say they've put some parts on order and ops response is to go down there and kick up a fuss then proceeds to contact head office and throw more toys around. Completely unnecessary at that stage. Sounds like the garage wasn't dealing with it through head office - until op went above them anyway.0
