I don't see what the big deal is with the ops problem. They say they've put some parts on order and ops response is to go down there and kick up a fuss then proceeds to contact head office and throw more toys around. Completely unnecessary at that stage. Sounds like the garage wasn't dealing with it through head office - until op went above them anyway.

Do you think it is acceptable to be driving round in a car that was 5 months old with 1000 odd miles on the clutch with a faulty clutch? With no idea when it would be fixed? I didn't think that was acceptable as I could have been causing further damage to my car.
I wasn't happy with the dealer response so went to head office who agreed I should not have driven my car away when the faulty clutch was diagnosed and should have been offered a courtesy car at that stage.
I wouldn't say I threw any toys around just stated the facts as I saw fit.
My problem is all sorted now and it appears another MSE user is having problems with their hyundai i10
Which going by the plate is the older style and not the new generation i10

    Is yours a new shape.

asking because interested in buying anew shape one.
I know the old style i10 and i20 have clutch issues, the i30 seems to be ok, but not heard anything about any of the new shape, 10s,20s or 30s

Yes I do. Clutches generally cause consequential damage.
op has left it a month or so at this point so another couple of weeks I'd unlikely to do any harm.

Are these the old style i10,s or the new shape

    Hello

My i10 is the older style, as below

Have you looked on the hyundai forums regarding the new shape and any snags? This forum is quite good

My mates grandmother wrecked the clutch on a brand new Fiesta (in 1998), nobody could understand why, as she apparently always drove quite well......

That is until she was seen trying to reverse, apparently she was at maximum revs, bouncing off the rev limiter and slipping the clutch.

It lasted about 200 miles from new.

    Evening
After a bit of advice - apologies if it is a long one!

Purchased a brand new hyundai i10 end of January 2014.
What was wrong with the car that meant it could only do 1000 miles in FOUR months? That is only 8 miles per day! It probably rusted up due to lack of use.

Its not like Hyundai don't have a history of clutches made of cheese

A car less than 12 months old and because they have so much warranty work to be coping with, delay even looking at it for weeks and then say it'll be a few more weeks to source parts? Sounds like modern Hyundai. They were surprised by their early take-up in the city car sector, their logistics still haven't caught up. Wouldn't be in the least surprised if every dealer is crying VOR to try and get to the top of the parts supply list.
The company were well regarded in heavy industry, entered in a fairly bland way to cars (remember the Korean Kortina?) and now building featherlight cars expecting owners to endurance test them, just like BL did.
No doubt Hyundai and Kia will get there, just shouldn't be paying more to their PR teams to generate ideas why the cars faults are the owners, instead of re-engineering now.
