From a quick read, OP, I think you should also be able to lodge your case with the small claims court ASAP. The process seems to be straightforward.

No i am not accusing the OP of lying its the landlord I don't believe. What people say and what they do can be 2 different things. What the LL is doing is blackmail.
If i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here :p

Whatever the morals of it, the LL has committed unlawful conduct.

The OP should get legal advice and keep records of everything this costs them, as well as request an incident number from the police.

Could be expensive for the LL

Let's hope so. And if they are so over committed financially that they cannot give a few days grace to a tenant then they shouldn't be a landlord.

What do you propose the OP claims for? The small claims court is for money issues (put very basically).
  • Sounds as if the Landlord is at the end of his tether - that's not to say that I don't sympathise with you OP. I would ask to meet with him explaining the situation clearly, and asking whether some kind of arrangement could be made in respect of your belongings and his rent.

6 days late shouldn't put a LL at the end of his tether.

The LL has broken the law. The OP has been robbed, illegally.

    Stick to the facts.

The Facts will never be clear to see because we have not heard the Landlords side of the story. No, he hasn't been robbed.... Don't wish to argue with you. I'm entitled to my opinion too.

    .

    The irony.

How does one get robbed legally?

My bank doesn't give me a few days grace, and they are worth billions.

The OP's wrongdoing has set off a chain of events. Let's not lose sight of that fact.

Wow, I'm not sure about your bank but mine isn't in my home seizing goods if I'm 6 days late paying my credit card. In fact, although they would apply an automatic £12 charge, you would also find that they would be willing to refund this if you asked them nicely. It would take them months before they would do anything other than ask you for the money.

They would also mark your credit file which would stay on record for 6 years, which would limit your ability to gain credit.

I would rather pawn my goods for 2 weeks than this.

Maybe for a first offence, but I doubt this landlord took this action after a one time non payment(I say non payment, as it isn't a late payment if it still has not been paid).

All of this unpleasantness would not have happened if the OP had paid their rent. The landlord is not a free credit facility for tenants who decide to use them as such.
