After seeing lookingforabargains picture of loom bands I decided I would pass the time while nan was snoozing and made these , I don't have a loom so used my fingers and learnt I do everything left handed apart from write

Thanks- aldi are on my list for Thursday :D

Just gotta hope the oranges in the fridge will last :o

If they're looking a bit iffy, you could maybe do the initial prep/boiling stage first tomorrow, and then the next stages on Thursday when you've got the jars? That's what I did with my strawberries and my peach/apricot/nectarine combo last night, although I strained mine so it might be different for marmalade.
    Good luck!

Remember to use a towel to take your jars out of the oven :rotfl:

    Peach jam successfully made :j
Just waiting for it to chill now so I can try it out on the kids later.
I never eat jam and I could go at these homemade ones with a spoon :D
I'm sure it always tastes much better when you make something yourself :j

Next up is plum, blueberry or apricot :)

I think it's partly the freshness, but also the knowing what went into it as well. That's why I really want to master baking my own bread as I don't like the idea of all the added preservatives and carp that gets put into shop-bought loaves. Making your own jam/bread/butter/cakes etc isn't necessarily cheaper than buying the basics range from the supermarket, but can be cheaper than buying normal-range or fancy-pants versions, especially if you can get the key ingredients for free from your garden/local Morrisons :D

    Afternoon peeps. :)

I'm just about to make apricot jam, never made jam before!!
    Wish me luck!

Good luck:D And it's a good idea to put something like newspaper over the worktop when your putting it in the jars, takes ages to get it off the worktop once it's set:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'd love to have a go at making bread one day :)

I agree, the best thing about getting cheap stuff (or even free stuff) is it means we can try out new stuff.
I would never have dreamed of making jam if it hadn't been for the ton of strawbs we got from our garden and the ideas from the elite :T

:rotfl:yes and the sides of the jars if you spill like I did... It set like concrete:eek:

I tried to sterilize my jars in the microwave but it started flashing and making a funny noise scaring me half to death:eek:

One thing I wasn't sure of... When you've transferred the jam into the jar it says cover... Does this mean with the lid? Or do you put the lid on when its cooled??
