    I can't stand it unless it's melted

Funny eh ? Its only mozzarella I eat on pizza too Cheddar too strong. Even the mild stuff. So I avoid a lot of frozen ones as they tend to have both.

Sounds lovely could you share the recipe please?

While I'm on the recipe cadge does anyone have an idiots guide to making flour tortilla wraps? I really fancy giving these a go.

    tia

Sorry, don't have a recipe but couldn't be easier, just throw any soft fruit into a bowl, add sugar to taste, or how thick you want the syrup, add any liquor you fancy, can dilute a little with sherry. CherryB, etc and cook in microwave or pan until soft. I do 500g cherries for 5 mins.
Then bottle in sterilised jars. Like the fruit in alcohol you can buy at Christmas.

:rotfl:yes and the sides of the jars if you spill like I did... It set like concrete:eek:

I tried to sterilize my jars in the microwave but it started flashing and making a funny noise scaring me half to death:eek:

You sure you didn't put anything metal, like the lids in :o

Hehe no... Just the jars... I did find a tiny spek of glue on one from a label I'd soaked off and wondered if it was that ....

I boiled the kettle after than and submerged them...

If they're looking a bit iffy, you could maybe do the initial prep/boiling stage first tomorrow, and then the next stages on Thursday when you've got the jars? That's what I did with my strawberries and my peach/apricot/nectarine combo last night, although I strained mine so it might be different for marmalade.

You are not wrong there!

I think it's partly the freshness, but also the knowing what went into it as well. That's why I really want to master baking my own bread as I don't like the idea of all the added preservatives and carp that gets put into shop-bought loaves. Making your own jam/bread/butter/cakes etc isn't necessarily cheaper than buying the basics range from the supermarket, but can be cheaper than buying normal-range or fancy-pants versions, especially if you can get the key ingredients for free from your garden/local Morrisons :D

Thank you! Most of the recipes I've looked at have said about leaving for 24 hours so that's perfect :)

One thing I wasn't sure of... When you've transferred the jam into the jar it says cover... Does this mean with the lid? Or do you put the lid on when its cooled??

    Tia:)

I put the washed jars in the oven on the lowest temperature while the jams doing, then switch it off when I take the jam off the heat. Give it 5 mins to cool then take the jars out (with hand protection!) and fill.

I put the lids straight on :)
