Morning all

I'm still learning
I know strawbs are equal quantities but my Mum told me she does peaches with a bit less sugar (love the way she's so vague!)
I thought I'd get multiple opinions and work from there
I've done equal quantities with plums before, which is the closest I've done to peaches (that'll be tonight's job!), but basically it's down to you and how sweet you like it!
This recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/peach-jam-recipe.html suggests 8-10lbs of peaches and 8lbs of sugar, which is a rather large total quantity, but still more or less equal.
I would imagine part of the reason your mum is vague is that it's just instinctive, once you've done it so many times it's just habit and you don't have to think about how it's done, quantities, timings etc. I'm the same when I bake, but hubby can't seem to get it at all, on the rare occasions that he cooks, he follows precise timings, even if I can tell it's burning or what have you, he will not switch the hob/oven off until his phone timer says it's time :rotfl:0 -
We bought 10 papers and got enough fruit and veg for all of us (plus some spare) I wasn't sure what would be too much and what wasn't enough but think I balanced it right
So far I've thrown away 2 pears which were half eaten and the kids have decided they don't like them (rest of the pears have gone to a neighbour) and 2 peaches that turned before the best before date.
So today I'm making crumbles and jams
Any suggestions for fruity desserts that use loads of jus rol pastry
Fruit turnovers
Pin wheel cookies with your home made jam

I'm sure lots of these could be adapted to what ever fruit you have left:)0 -
Morning all.
Well I'm shattered lol.
Bike ride at 6.30 then at 8.45 walked to local town, 30 mins each way. Carried shopping home, cut lawn, went on tomorrow's bike ride so I don't have to get up at 6.30 to goas I fancy a little lay in.
Just to tackle housework, upload receipts, go pick strawberries, make some Bolagnaise sauce for freezer with M veg and then I think I'm done. Best get cracking
Glad asbo feeling better
I wish I had your energy today cjj. :T
I have a mountain of jobs to tackle what with DD1 coming home for few days end of week, festival next week, only back for a few days before off to caravan for proper holiday. In between all that have our 25th anniversary to organise/cater for and empty old garage so that it can be taken down and rebuilt.
I am floundering. It's times like this I like to bury my head in the sand which doesn't help at all.

Re the waste issue- I've only thrown away a mouldy lemon, some mouldy blueberries and this morning, an orange. All of which were stored correctly and were within their dates.
I have made blueberry jam, will be making marmalade as soon as I can get hold of some jars, sliced and frozen a load of lemons and limes for vodka, grated some ginger, am about to make some ginger and garlic paste (the garlic is homegrown) and will be sorting my chillies out this afternoon, so everything will be used.
I still need to deal with the turmeric, but for now, that's stored correctly in the fridge. I might even chuck a bit in some soil to see what happensI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. We are terrible in our house. Its always, do i buy it or not ? As one week it will be eaten and the next it wont. But then cant ban it altogether. So well done on making the most of the stuff you got.
On a foot note when I worked for well known card company as third party for mr ts , going through back one of the guys told me that there is at least 3 crates of bananas thrown away everyday and thats just bananas. They dont even make it to whoopsied. :eek:0 -

If you have one near you, Aldi's special buys on Thursday will feature 4 x 2lb or 8 x 1lb jars for £3.990 -

I guess I've been lucky I haven't thrown anything away yet, my fridge is set at 1' and seems to be doing a good job. Lots of the veg I bought has been blanched and frozen.
The monkeys have fruit everyday as puddings after meals so its being eaten quite quickly.
I did buy some of the ripen at home nectarines etc as they tend to take a while, so they will be ready to eat once the berries are gone:)
I just need to find a sauce to put with my chicken and leek bake.... DH hates mustard and a lot of recipes I've found add this... Wondering if cheese would work??0 -

I think most good cooks go off instinct
I usually stick to recipes the first time and then do my own thing as I know where it went wrong the first time
I've done 5 batches of strawb jam which I've mastered nowso will probably go with 1:1 as I know the kids will eat it sweet.
