    You sound very MSE. :money:

Well it is very MSE, thanks to a couple apps I have running on my iPad and iPhone, it pays for itself every 3-4 months.

No. Just more expensive as they are regarded as a 'designer' brand.

You know, the must have item.

I'm sure Google, Samsung, Acer, Microsoft and the other tablet makers would be horrified that you think of Apple as a 'designer brand' but not their products!

My tablet of choice is the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 which might seem an odd choice for someone who has an iMac desktop and a MacBook Pro laptop but the iPad didn't do what I wanted while the Samsung does.

For me the top of my list of what a tablet should have was a stylus, Samsung the S pen for notes and diagrams etc. is perfect.

People should buy what they need, not because of the name on the box or what other people are buying.

Of course you're right but there are still loads of people out there who will pay over £1000 for a Mac just to surf the web or do some basic word processing or spreadsheets.
Seriously, where is the financial sense in that?

What if that person has a spare £1,000 kicking around?

    Yes of course.

What if said person takes out finance to pay for the uneccessary product?

That has nothing to do with the iPad and everything to do with the person's spending habits.

That sort of person would probably buy all manner of stuff on credit.

Not really an answer, is it?

You're on the internet, you could be out working, earning money.

    Not very MSE, dude.

With everything in life you get what you pay for. The Apple devices IMO are better designed and made to a higher quality standard and the software is more seamless, but that's just my opinion. However the Nexus is a decent tablet and one (working in the industry) I do like. But it's a way off the quality of the iPads, but costs less.

If you already have a decent tablet, you probably won't gain much from buying another currently. That said you may prefer the operating system of iOS to Android, and the quality of the device as a whole. Why not try them out in John Lewis or an Apple Store?

Those wittering about "designer brands" are missing the point. Everything is a "designer brand" if you boil it down to such meaningless statements.

In addition those also saying Macs are £1000s more expensive, are quoting figures from the 1980s. My colour balanced iMac which I use for professional photo editing (working on enormous 50MB+ RAW files by the hundreds), cost less than my PC set-up with a colour balanced monitor, still perhaps Microsoft is also a "designer brand"... I use both daily as a professional.

I'd rather pay more for something and have it last many years longer, than buy something cheap for it to only need replacing every few years, be it Apple or another quality other brand. That's far more "MSE" in my world.

Each to their own, but those giving bad advice based on prejudice and misinformation will help no-one.

The choice is iPad or whatever.
If you have Apple apps, then the iPad is the one.
If you only want to surf the web then it doesn't really matter.
    Me, I've got an iPad.
