Are iPads worth the extra money?

Well it certainly isn't a 'Designer brand', those expounding that it is, clearly have no idea what the phrase means.
The iPad is a different operating system to the more budget tablets. Apple don't make budget tablets, so, if you want to use their operating system you have to pay a little more. Their hardware is of a premium construction though.
I personally don't think that it's a better OS than the others and it is no worse.
My iPad sits on the coffee table for occasional use now as they don't support it with updates to the OS anymore. That said, it is still capable of doing what I require of it.
You have to view all your options and make up your own mind as to which OS you like best then make your purchase based purely on that IMO.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

It's quite difficult to buy a "bad" iPad. If you go into an Apple store and buy an iPad, you will have quality hardware and software and support.
With Android, there are hundreds of tablets to choose from. This can be a huge advantage, as you can choose one that meets your needs, rather than adapting your needs to what the iPad gives you. But there's also a huge disadvantage: if you have absolutely no interest in this category of technology, there are plenty of poor Android tablets, and if you bought one blindfolded, the chances are that it won't be a very good tablet in some way - a poor CPU, or poor screen, or old Android version, or poor construction, etc etc. Research and understanding are needed when buying an Android device.
So the price premium for iPads is worth it if you have no time or interest in researching your purchase thoroughly (which is perfectly understandable and does not make you stupid). Oh, and they're also a safe buy for stupid people.
(Incidentally, this is the same situation for Macbooks vs PC laptops - millions of PC laptops to choose from, and only small number are great machines, while Macbooks are (almost) always safe choices - but if you're prepared to do your (hours and hours of painstaking) research, you can get a killer PC laptop that's better for your needs and cheaper than a Macbook)Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -

The rumours are strong that Google may launch new Nexus devices in a week or so.
Best to hold off to see what they come up with,That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
No.
But don't go too cheap on android or windows tablets, the super cheap ones are rubbish.
You get what you pay for.
If you want overpriced designer label and a dated operating system buy apple or android

I've had a Nexus 7 for nearly 2 years and its still used regularly. Got a Xperia Z tablet at Christmas (larger screen) which is awesome - apart from the screen attracting dust like nobody business. Both are Android and do a good job.
My mum has an Ipad and shes 70 years old and loves it. I find the Ipad a bit less intuitive for me, but I think they are generally better quality although there seems to be more choice of apps on android than from Apple. Good thing is, we can use the common communication systems (skyp, messenger etc.) to keep in touch tablet to tablet. I think £ for £, Ipad is over priced compared to a decent Android device, but if its worth it to you, its worth it to you. If there had been an updated Nexus 10 around at Christmas, I would have gone for that - we took the Nexus 7 around the world with us last year and it never failed us, don't know what we'd have done without it.
If you've already got a Nexus 7, can't see the advantage of getting an Ipad, unless you are a serious user or need it for work. For leisure tabletting, its pretty good, although I wish it had had a micro SD slot, and HDMI out, which the Xperia does.0
