Feeling like giving up

  • I don't really have any advice to add to the excellent suggestions already made, but I do want to say I'm thinking of you.

Please do seek help; please do realise that, as Angry Bear has said, depression lies (I speak from experience); please don't give up. Tell those thoughts "No, you know what, f*ck you, I won't let you rule me or ruin my life! You're full of sh*t and I'm sing past your lies!" Call your crisis team or the Samaritans, they're there to listen.

Maybe consider allowing them to admit you, maybe it will help and even if it doesn't, is it any worse than where you are now? My friend has been sectioned and through rehab (separate occasions) and found it really helped her mental state to not need to do the day-to-day functioning and worrying about the daily cooking, etc, instead having sorry to help her deal with the stuff in her head.

Please try. Please don't give up. Please, fight on.

You are not worthless at all OP. I hate to think of you feeling so low and alone. I hope the responses on here have helped you. Sometimes it can be even more useful to connect properly though, and hear another human voice when you feel at rock bottom. Try calling the Samaritans 08457 909090. Their trained advisors could make a difference.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I have mental health issues too, and I do hesr how hopeless you are feeling. Do you take any meds? I have been on every psyc med going, and it took til age 40 to get the right combo for me ( pregablin, citalopram, Seroquel). I was chronically suicidal all of my life and didn't think it would ever change, but it can change, honest it can. what support network do you have? I know hosapital is scary, but it can sometimes help to have that place of safety, plus they can tweak your meds . Please hang in there, It must be so hard to hold on to something. What angry bear said is so true.. depression does lie . safe hugs x
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)

The thoughts inside my head won't ever go away and I realise that now :(

Now look here Missy! Nobody is worthless. Worthless of what, of who? The fact everything worked together to make a little human is a miracle. You are here on this planet, amongst millions and billions of others all who have good, bad and ugly days. The fact is, you're here.

Thoughts are just that, thoughts. Anyone can have a thought, I just had a thought if I would ever fly to the moon (I won't) but it's just a thought. It doesn't mean anything and before two minutes are out that thought will probably disappear forever. Thoughts do not dictate your life.

STart knowing your worth. Everyone has a worth, despite what others may tell you. Start thinking about things you're happy about, if you really think you can come up with some. Be thankful you're not in Bagdad for a start! :D Be thankful you can hear the birds, see the blue sky, feel the rain on your face. Write down some nice things you think of. Doesn't matter what it is, could be the fact you like the colour of your couch, there's always something that is 'nice' to think about.

Please please go and speak to your doctor again. Speak to them until they recognise that you need a boost, in whatever form that may be. Speak to the Samaritans, they're there for a reason.. to listen to people, yes, even people like you!

You will be fine, this too shall pass. Please just stick around, we like people around here or it would be a lonely place!

You're not worthless, you have an amazing value. It might seem meaningless to you but you are an extremely rare commodity. You can trace your life back billions of years, to galaxies beyond ours. A huge number of events occurred to create you. You could easily be described as a miracle.

You have an illness that lies to you and manipulates you into believing things that simple are not true. I post on several forums, I've encountered many people on these forums and like real life I can't remember the bulk of them - but I remembered your username the moment I saw this thread. Now, I'll be honest, I don't recall how I came to remember it but I did and so that means that out of the myriad of usernames I've come across on websites such as these, yours stuck out and stayed in my mind. That means something; it's far from worthless.

I've suffered with depression since I can remember. I've been in a similar situation than you are now. It was thankfully a long time ago for me but while I wouldn't dare to presume I know exactly how you're feeling, I do know the urge to give up and the sense that talking it through is futile, meds don't work and nothing can be done. But it can be, and you want it to be because you're posting here. And that's good.

I can't offer you a lot of advice on what to do but what I would recommend is that whenever you have the energy and strength to open up do it. There's places like the Samaritans you can call for support. Never be afraid to ask for help. We all need it sometimes.

And when you don't have the energy, if it helps just take a deep breath, look at nature, look at the stars, think about how amazing Earth and cosmos really is and how you're an intrinsic part of that.

You're sassy, not worthless. This rougher patch will pass. You are amazing.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Stop with the perpetual "I am worthless" "Things are never going to change" attitude.

    You are depressed.

Stephen Fry said, "depression is like the weather, we can't change it, but it doesn't always rain".

Depression is something that you have to manage, not surrender to.

Your life which you feel is worthless, others would value.

There is nothing anyone here can say or do to enable you to feel better or change your thinking, you have to help yourself and until you do, then yes, things will continue to be the same.
