Never heard of it here either, but SSHHHHH!!! or else Hallmark will be producing a Happy First Tooth card and suddenly everyone will be guilted into going along with it.0

It's shoes here, whoever finds the first tooth, buys the first shoes when they're needed. I'm in Scotland.
Same here in Ireland

I had an email today from a friend with a toddler and 3 month old asking me how she can stop well meaning family and friends constantly buying stuff for the children and overwhelming their tiny house with stuff they don't need, don't want and have no room for.
So if you want to do something to celebrate - how about finding a way to do so in a 'not purchasing stuff' way.
Cutsie keepsakes generally become 'stuff' laden with guilt obligation to keep, but bestow little pleasure long term.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Sounds like a "tradition" invented by people who want you to buy another silly, non occasion card and even more pointless presents!0

I agree about quantities of stuff- how about a bottle of something nice for the parents as he is bound to be fractious over teething at some stage! But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I still don't really understand this one - so is it the first person to see the baby's tooth in its head? Surely that would normally be one of the baby's parents, or maybe a sibling?0

Never heard of it either. Seems to (maybe) be a thing in Scotland and Ireland.(•_•)

Never heard of it in Ireland. The only 'tradition' I ever encountered was the fear the first-time mums in my breastfeeding group had as the first tooth started cutting. Followed by relief a few weeks later when it's confirmed that the baby doesn't suddenly start chewing their milk out.

Never heard of it in North Wales, either.
A strange one. It's going to be mum or maybe dad,,eh?Member #14 of SKI-ers club
