Hello, my handsome grandson has gone and got his first tooth cutting through .
I've been reading about traditions when people first see a first tooth , and I wondered .. Did anyone follow the tradional of buying a gift for the baby and if you did what was it ?

Neither have I.
(I love the autocorrect of 'grandson' to 'grandiose' though.)
The only tooth-related tradition in our house is that[STRIKE] I [/STRIKE]*ahem* the tooth fairy has kept the first tooth lost from each child.[STRIKE] I [/STRIKE]*ahem* she doesn't quite know why, but once[STRIKE] I [/STRIKE]*ahem* she'd done it for the first the tradition had to continue...They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

In some countries they buy shoes for the baby as it's felt he will proper as he's doing so well to cut teeth , or gifts of silver for the same reason .

It's shoes here, whoever finds the first tooth, buys the first shoes when they're needed. I'm in Scotland. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

In what sense does one "find" the tooth? Surely that is bound to be mum anyway? I think it was my nipple that found the first tooth my DD had! DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Never heard of it and I have an exceptionally large extended family.
I think the only tradition would be mum making herself a cuppa and saying 'thank god for that'.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I've heard that the person who spots the first tooth is traditionally supposed to buy the baby a pair of shoes.SPC # 115
