It's my babys fault the high chair is faulty

This is a vent... so if you're not in the mood for listening to a whinge, turn away now
I have a Mamas and Papas pesto highchair, we use it three times a day most days and I let my 9 month old feed himself. This is where mamas and papas have said I have gone wrong: he's been left 'free to touch the fabric'.
You see my vent is that their fabric choice soaks in colour - so anything with a pigment (curry, spag bol, raspberries etc) immediately stain it. Even if I clean it immediately after the food impacts, it still stains.
So I complained, I was hoping for a newer version seat pad or perhaps an apology for their rubbish design.
Their response was that it was my DS's fault for getting food on the seat and I should feed him myself to avoid this issue. I don't think the lady in customer services has children :rotfl:
She then whittered on about how their fabric is non toxic for children blah blah blah and that's why it soaks in colour. I suggested they spoke to chicco and mothercare, both of which sell highchairs we use which don't soak up colour.
Anyway, rant over. Don't buy from Mamas and Papas if you expect reasonable response to any problems!

I can see both sides of the argument - it is annoying, but was it not obvious from the look/ feel of the material that it would not be cleanable?0

I would expect all highchairs to be cleanable.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Perhaps they need to include something in the product description to say that it isn't an appropriate chair for those who follow baby led weaning?
Seems very poor design for a child's high chair to not be stain resistant as even babies that are carefully spoon fed by adults will at some point spit something colourful on it!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Yep I would expect a baby's high chair to be cleanable too. Can recommend chicco Polly, all fully strips down to be cleaned thoroughly and I put the straps in the washer at least once a week. Had one before that was cheap, with fixed straps and it was disgusting, and only fit for the tip after a couple of months as I couldn't wash the straps :-(0

Or the £15 ikea ones. No padding, injection moulded, completely cleanable :TBossymoo

Nope, it feels like and looks like any other high chair.
The straps come out of the washing machine gleaming, I can recommend the straps. The seat itself is also very much easy to clean. It's the padding which is rubbish.
I find mamas and papas quite comical in their responses. They genuinely don't seem to care about their poor design choice.

I would say that the chair is not fit for purpose.
Any item designed for use by a baby that is not stain resistant is clearly unfit for its intended purpose. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Pity you can't tell the difference between law and your own opinion as well.
There is plenty of room for interpretation and opinion in the law - that's what the courts are here to do.
I think many people would share the opinion that a child's high chair that stains instantly on contact with food and cannot be cleaned is not of satisfactory quality and/or not fit for purpose.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

I would say it is fit for purpose as it can still be used as a high chair and the staining does not effect this ability. I would argue that it is is not of satisfactory quality though.0
