URGENT: Greedy landlord gone OTT..?

to be fair to OP I've had the misfortune to meet landlords who think that because you rent a room from them you also sell you life to them. They think they have you over a barrel and use bullying techniques to try to make you agree to their unreasonable demands.
It's easy to say you would never agree when you aren't in the middle of it and in fear of being kicked out on the street.0 -
I think th OP is on the level.
My advice? Think long and hard if this is the woman you want to spend the rest of your life with. If not, like a sticking plaster, relationships are best ended swiftly. It isn't about the cash, she didn't listen to you.0 -
Oh dear - does sound rather like the OH is being somewhat manipulative here doesnt it. If one shares a home with an - agreed - fixed number of people then thats how it is. Sounds like OH is trying to semi-live there, tho he isnt a tenant. Sounds like the other tenants tried to fix the situation themselves and eventually got fed up with someone else virtually living there and then went to landlord. Landlord seems to be asking for this money to try and get rid of girlfriends unofficial lodger and is hoping that girlfriend and unofficial lodger will move out - TBH I think they should. There will be more fuel, etc, used due to unofficial lodger being there so much of the time and, more to the point, another body in the house trying to use the facilities - ie bathroom time, etc. It is definitely not fair on the other tenants to find that an unofficial tenant is using the bathroom, etc, when they are trying to do so themselves. I have read a lot of this thread - but have failed to find any sympathy for the other tenants in this - well I feel sorry for them. Of course, it may be that they get on with girlfriend, but resent the flatmate they didnt have any choice in - and who can blame them!0

This has to be a wind up? Surely???
Nobody can be as spineless as the original poster in real life, can they?
I predict once you have coughed up this "rent" you will be dumped by your girlfriend. Both her and the landlady must be p*ssing themselves laughing behind your back.......0 -

Nah, WW2B is a troll and it's innocent MSE's that are being taken for a ride!
If he is, he is very successful, I like his style!0 -
It's like something from Coronation Street!
Here's the storyline.
Tracy gets fed up of Wayne hanging round her house all the time.
Takes a fancy to landlord (Ken) instead. Together they think up a 'grand plan'. Tracy will ask Wayne to pay for the time he has spent there. They'll ask for thousands!
To get Wayne to swallow the tale Tracy does the 'weak and pathetic' female act. She threatens to end things. Wayne is a bit dim so he pays up.
Tracy dumps the unwitting Wayne and her and Ken scaper to Magaluf to live happily ever after.0 -
If OP is genuine- (I am optimistic about this:D (
I am fairly sure that any alleged agreement that is signed under duress is non-binding- please get legal advice over this.
I would strongly advise you not to be dragged in to paying any money to the LL. You don't owe anything! Although I agree with OP and some of the others, that a contribution toward heating and lighting would not go amiss - BUT TO THE TENANTS.(approx 20 quid a month )..but it is mighty odd that you are being chased this late in the day  (if boyfriends/girlfiends who are semi-resident contribute, it does seem a lot more palatable to flatmates- at one point there were 4 of us living in a house- two people (GF) were there more than I was-and I was subsidising their living expenses:/, as well as haivng to tolerate them using bathrooms/kitchens when paying tenants wanted to use them- it is amazing how irritating this can become when it happens continually  )
I think you need to ask yourself what the alternative explanations for any behaivour are ( i find it very odd that you GF attending a 'meeting' with a LL without you being 'allowed' to be present- I mean honestly! When I have had meetings with LL over various matters- I've inadvertently had a friend there/partner and at one point the police (felt very threatened).) One explanation is that your GF is being severely bullied, another is that the 'meeting' doesn't exist! (hope this isn't true)

Wow - your gf is an idiot!£4000 challenge
Currently leftover - £3872.150 -
You should have gone to this meeting with your girlfriend, then your landlord probably wouldn't have been able to bully your girlfriend into signing anything although I still can't believe what an idiot your girlfriend has been.
In my opinion if that was me that would be the end of our relationship as how could i trust her in the future. Similar things will happen in the future no doubt.0
