Just seen this post, ok...
Halifax are a 'middle of the road' lender. Usually they will decline you first of all. Why don't you try to ring them up and appeal, as you can do this. Many people dont htink you can but you can appeal the decision. Make sure you have all the right information.
Egg are very strict with their lending, I have just got one and they have lend me the smallest limit Ive ever had.
Capital One Now which one was this? They have the classic card and this is very high APR (doesnt matter if you pay off in full) the more apealing cards by them are very hard to get unless you have a perfect credit history
So you want one for balance transfers?
Try the & More Credit Card it is more lenient in general
If you are just looking for one to built back up your credit history let me know.
Thanks for that. I migjht try the m & s card. 4.9LOB no fee i believe. Thats ok by me.I dont need to build it back up, i have nevr defaulted, missed paymnets. I have two personal loans, bth been running for 2 yrs, pay on time everyt month( only 1k left on these). And i have the lloyds card with 1800. I am only 20, so that might be the reason. Oh well.Halifax CC [STRIKE]£1322.88[/STRIKE] £0 :j 11.9% Virgin CC [STRIKE]£1534.76[/STRIKE] £1384.76 0% until AUG 13. Grant over payment [STRIKE]£166.66[/STRIKE] £0 :j DFD 31 JUL 13 #102

Ok i take your point, but when you say 14 in 12 months, do you mean spread right out? or like 4 or 5 in one month. Thats the difference.
And yes ok you have no problems getting credit,
have you got a mortgage?
what type of credit are you getting? are you been given 10 or 15,000 as a starter limit? with all due respect we can all say we can get credit...its just what kind of credit...I could get a 1 million pound loan tomorrow, if im prepared to pay 60% interest e.t.cINCREASE INTEREST ON SAVINGS!
...I will thank you if youve been helpful, please do the same! :j0 -

Try MBNA and Citi as they seem to give credit cards to anyone

They not only search your credit file to check if you are good with credit but they also look at how many cards you have outstanding and the amount of available credit and your income. So if you have lots of cards but with hardly anything on them and they are refusing you or giving lower credit then its time to close down the cards you do not want. As if you have too many available cards you might get refused even if you have good credit record.
And you have to do that in writing via registered mail and you want a letter confirming they closed the account, and not left it just sitting dormant in the background. That is very important.0 -

I agree, I've got about a dozen searches in the last year and recently applied succesfully for 4 Credit Cards with pretty good credit limits, although none of the previous searches were in the last 6 months.
I'm stunned by the level of credit I am getting, lot of the recent applications will allow me to stooze against my Mortgage account.0 -
everything your partner applies for will go down on your credit file. This means if they apply for 3 cards and you apply for 3 then it will record 6 searches on your file.
This is not quite true , if your partner applies for credit there could be(not always) a search under the "people that are linked to you finacially " this is not in the same section as your searches and this section is also not seen at all by lenders so if you apply for 3 and your partner apply for 3 then you will have 3 searches not 6 !!

Yes it will in most cases.... M&S are run by HSBC, have you had any bad dealing with them before? that might be the case. If not please check your credit file, everything your partner applies for will go down on your credit file. This means if they apply for 3 cards and you apply for 3 then it will record 6 searches on your file. this might be why
Although I got accepted for a Sainsbury's card at the same time - I wanted to do a balance transfer on two 16% cards - the M&S would have been good at 4.9% so I still got the Sainsbury's one at 5.6% (I think!)
What do you mean you think? lol ...check the handling fee with this and factor this in. Barlaycard has a low transfer rate at the moment with their Flexi Rate card i is at 1.7%, which is good compared to some which are 3%. I think it is 0% for 12 months
but they won't let me transfer the other card over to it as well.
Should I try for another low life of balance card - or wait a while?
Call them and ask them why you have been rejected, and then appeal. Make sure your salary details are correct
Thank you for all that info, I'll call them and make enquiries.
I've never had any dealings with HSBC, and OH hasn't appled for credit (so no searches on his finances I suppose) for over 7 years, he's been on the DMP for almost 2 years now.
No handling fee with the Sainsbury's card - and I'm sure that was the rate quoted lol! I'm a bit allergic to Barclays as that's who OH had all his dealings with - and when all his financial problems came to light I had to fend off the very nasty phone calls from them - it's kind of put me off them, really!
I was after a low rate for the life of the balance too - which is why I went for the Sainsbury's one and also M&S, I'm into paying everything off since joining this site!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

i'm probably gonna sound like a dunce but i just don't get how credit ratings work. I applied for the amazon credit card for the free voucher and got accpted, i applied for the sony one for the mp3 and got rejected, applied for the post office card and got rejected. what does this mean for my credit rating? i won't be using the amazon card much- prob for emergencies and buying stuff off amazon itself. as long as i keep up with repayments and don't apply for any other cards will the efects of gettin declined twice be negated...?
