I have managed to pull this off before twice. Just last month applied for 5 different cards to do a balance transfer. Was declined by first three. But last two accepted of which one was asking for confirmation of identity. I did this while still having some searches still on file within the 1 year period.

Be aware that if you're applying for a card from a certain supplier and get declined to make a note and not to apply for different cards from the same provider if you get what I mean. All the best and remember the more searches you rack up, the slimmer your success rate gets.

Does that mean that if u get declined even though u haven't done anything, it counts as a negative in the credit ratings?

It’s not the being declined, it’s the search that counts negatively.

If you have several searches within a short space of time, it will say: “I’m desperate for credit. I’m in a financial mess!”

No applications for over 6 months.

    Then applied for

Sky Card 3 weeks ago £3500 Limit
Tesco 2 weeks ago £3800 limit
    Egg last night £7500 limit

Was amazed when Egg went through, now have enough to 0% BT and some for the stoozing pot until same time next year!

which were the last two ccs that declined u then?

    I have a lloyds.

Applied for halifax, then Egg, then Cap One.

I thought "internet Cards" would be a little more leanient. MAybee I should try another ~High street bank?

Im not trying to insult your intelligence but did you fill everything out properly? You income, address details, current history e.t.c? It may be worth ringing them up to confirm this, you may have made an easy ,mistake, which means instant disqualification!

What credit cards did you apply for and for what reasons?

have you just moved address? if so make sure you are on the electoral role

i have one other and want to xfer it!

What do you mean by this?

i have probably screwed up now for the next 6 months! Oh well, time to start upping those payments!

So you mean you have alot of debt on current cards?

Also have you got a copy of all your credit records? They easilly make mistakes, and they have done on mine so check it out

    Just seen this post, ok...

Halifax are a 'middle of the road' lender. Usually they will decline you first of all. Why don't you try to ring them up and appeal, as you can do this. Many people dont htink you can but you can appeal the decision. Make sure you have all the right information.

Egg are very strict with their lending, I have just got one and they have lend me the smallest limit Ive ever had.

Capital One Now which one was this? They have the classic card and this is very high APR (doesnt matter if you pay off in full) the more apealing cards by them are very hard to get unless you have a perfect credit history

So you want one for balance transfers?
Try the & More Credit Card it is more lenient in general

If you are just looking for one to built back up your credit history let me know.

I tried the & More card from M&S and was declined - I've got an excellent credit history, never ever paid anything late, cards, mortgage, car loan etc and never paid bank charges either! The only thing I could think of is that OH is on a DMP and we have a joint account - does that make a difference? Although I got accepted for a Sainsbury's card at the same time - I wanted to do a balance transfer on two 16% cards - the M&S would have been good at 4.9% so I still got the Sainsbury's one at 5.6% (I think!) but they won't let me transfer the other card over to it as well.
Should I try for another low life of balance card - or wait a while?

Yes it will in most cases.... M&S are run by HSBC, have you had any bad dealing with them before? that might be the case. If not please check your credit file, everything your partner applies for will go down on your credit file. This means if they apply for 3 cards and you apply for 3 then it will record 6 searches on your file. this might be why

What do you mean you think? lol ...check the handling fee with this and factor this in. Barlaycard has a low transfer rate at the moment with their Flexi Rate card i is at 1.7%, which is good compared to some which are 3%. I think it is 0% for 12 months

but they won't let me transfer the other card over to it as well.

Call them and ask them why you have been rejected, and then appeal. Make sure your salary details are correct

  • I have got about 14 searches on my file in the past 12 months and I still manage to get credit now so I am skeptical about the effect it has to be honest
