I have only ever taken sterling to Turkey after my first visit about 20 years ago. Bars & Restaurants will often change extra for you if you want to pay your bill plus get some spending money. Years ago the rate changed so quickly it was worth changing only a days money, much more stable now.0

I went to Turkey last year and had no problem spending Lira.0

Olu Deniz is fab you will love it.
You must try the paragliding and a day at the blue lagoon is good.Take the dolmus to fethiye on market day and also go to the turkish baths in fethiye they are the real old original ones. Also a visit to the fish market in fethiye where you buy your fish at the counters and then one of the restaurants around there cooks them for you very cheaplytravelover0 -
Glad you reminded me, I need to upgrade our insurance, my son (age 12 - gulp) wants do the paragliding. Have not quite decided whether I can let him do it yet but should change the insurance just in case. My husband has done parasailing which does not seem to bad, its the idea of jumping of a mountain that frightens me. Also there was someone killed at the beg of May doing it.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far
+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

Yes totally agree, we stayed in a appartment in Fetihye last year and out of Fetihye,Hisaronu and Olu Deniz we found Fetihye to be the nicest. The fish market in Fetihye is wonderful whereby you buy your fish then just pick one of the encircling restaurants to cook it for you. Everything was very colourful and like one of the other posters said,Haggle! The main market along side the river is enormous and they are very persistant in trying to sell you stuff but be prepared to walk away if you are not interested.
Off to Turkbuku (Bodrum Peninsula) on Sunday so if anyone has been there or has any tips it would be much appreciated.RoMaN CaMeL0 -

You don't jump anywhere when paragliding, you simply walk off the end of the mountain... I can't wait - 4 weeks today and we'll be in Olu Deniz
Also, the insurance should be included in the price you pay for the paragliding, just choose the company you go with wisely, as I'm sure you would anyway0 -
The paragliding was classed as an extreme sport and was not included in the price. The Insurance was kind of taken out of our hands we got a renewal from last years supplier and I misread and didn't realise it was automatic renewal. It is with Travel Insurance Web. Still have added the paragliding option £23 will still try and talk them out of it though.£2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

No one uses cheaques any more. Just use your ATM card. Nationwide is the best, as even an extraterrestrial must know by now. :-)0

Despite other claims, the Turkish people do take lira in exchange for goods & services.0
