I've had problems with this- funnily enough Miss Moneysaver I also had issues with the daughter of a senior member of staff! It turned out that the person snitching was the ward grass and I said instead of being so concerned about what I'm writing on my Facebook (get this- I wished my sister happy birthday and apparantly I was with her so therefore I wasn't at home- eh?!) maybe they should speak to this person about the fact she was claiming she was a single parent to a young child with no partner so therefore she could only work certain shifts that she dictated even though she openly boasted that she was shacked up with a bloke who she was engaged to and her 'very young child' was actually nearly 13...

It is totally true. Sounds petty I know but then again so is the subject of my displeasure.

I just have images of your OH going in there with a couple of presents saying 'Here Mr X, I bought you a present for your birthday on Tuesday and your wifes on Friday'

Might not get them the job!

That scarily makes it think its us that Slinky's OH is being interviewed by.........

We're on holiday at the moment, so if it is, it won't work :D:cool:

Often when people complete their personal profile they include their current place of work. BIG MISTAKE, that makes it very easy for your company to track your messages. If the concern is not offending workmates, just go to settings, customise who can see my posts, that way whatever you write won't be seen by the colleagues you've excluded in your customising....... It's a frequent problem, people not being aware of the implications of including employers in your profile. HTH

I wouldnt put ANYTHING on facebook, that you are not comfortable being seen by ANYONE- especially employers!

though why they feel the need to check out staff, is another matter..

My facebook is set on private, I havent got my employment details on there, one cant search for it using google and I dont even have me as my profile pic. Plus, adding present work colleagues is an absolute no-no.

However, why employers think its acceptable to go snooping around employees social media sites is beyond me. What people do in their own time should be of no concern whatsoever to an employer. All they should be concerning themselves with is the employees conduct/performance at work.

This is why I don't have anything that can link me to my place of work on Facebook and why I am not friends with any of my colleagues, we had a situation in my last workplace where one of my colleagues was supposedly off sick but was bragging about all that she had seen and done - forgetting that numerous colleagues and even senior management were her friends on there.

I know of someone who took to Twitter to make some awful comments about her workplace and ended up being dismissed for gross misconduct and bringing the company into disrepute.

Because people do things they should not be doing it when things are connected to the job

It is because people think the employers should not be doing it is the reason why they have to, you don't want to be employing idiots...

I'm no idiot. How dare you insult me without even having the faintest idea who I am. I just believe in a person's right to privacy.

If you don't want to employ an idiot - well that is what the recruitment process is for.

Employers do not own their employees lives.
