No " aggression " here Cyclone just realism.
Check out what's available in laminated worksurfaces these days.

Laminated green board, Laminated marine ply, Laminated Phenol board, Laminated weetabix

And lets be fair here we are talking minimum expectations, not expiry dates that are just outside warranty. We are talking hacking into a worktop made of sawdust and glue and expecting it to last when being drenched in water many times per day. Then giving a laminate that probably had a 10 year warranty a 5 year one......
Only the kitchen industry could take the lowest quality fibreboard available (apart from insulation board), cut holes in it to weaken it further, reduce the warranty and then try to pass it off as an improvement!
As relentless mass marketing has convinced a large section of the public that kitchens made from chipboard boxes is somehow 'quality furniture' no doubt the 'informed professionals' i.e. salesmen/women will con some folk into buying 'special' laminate for undermount sinks.0 -
Thanks everyone for their suggestions! I'm looking into the Alevus flush inset sink, which is absolutely beautiful! But not sure if I can justify the price tho!0

Sally - you still won't be able to get a flush sink in a laminate worktop - the best you could have is to surface mount it on top of the laminate.

I think it was Corian? It was a laminated top. But actually made in one piece and made to measure. The laminate actually formed the top and bowl as one unit.
Except it wasnt quite one unit. One fell off a pallet and the bowl fell out of the worktop. One very unhappy customer that had to wait many weeks for another to be made.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
What about flat mount sink?
I think the one you're looking at could be mounted like that, so that it just sits on top of the laminate, so would be proud of the worktop by about 1 - 2 mm - I think that's the closest that you're going to get.
Just spotted that Alveus do Flat mount - so that's your solution
(Have to admit - they are good looking sinks, but at those prices I wouldn't want anyone using it)

There is hardly anything in the world that some man cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey.

Miele products are warranted for 2 years but Miele themselves claim a 20 year life expectancy and there is enough evidence there to suggest that they do indeed last that long.
Ikea sells kitchens with 25 years warranties yes no one realistically expects them to last anything like that.
A warranty is nothing more than a manufacturers confidence in and commitment to their product post sale. I dont think there is anything in the regulation that a manufacturer must provide a guarantee or a warranty and any recourse a consumer has to a product is backed by regulation (SOGA etc).
A laminate worktop with an undermounted sink warranteed by 5 years doesnt mean that it would fall apart on the 1st day of the 5th year so there is no point in making a Luddite argument about a new product being ridiculous for the sake of argument. Its a new innovation and choice to the consumer. Time will tell just how durable these products are. Our first was supplied approx 4 years ago with a 17mm laminate worktop and its working perfectly.
Both the concept of 17mm laminate and undermount sink might be fodder for Luddite argument but they have stood the test of time and our suppliers have extended the offering to ceramic undermount sink. All without any problems. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
