You can't fit an undermounted sink in a laminate worktop. Undermount/underslung sinks can be fitted in solid timber worktops,Granite and most other solid surface worktops.

With a Laminate worktop you will be limited to an inset sink (sink is inset into the top of the worktop).

I've just ordered a Franke Fragranite undermounted sink which looks swish but as Leveller has said I don't think you can fit to laminate for obvious reasons

It would be impossible to seal the edges of the hole cut into a laminated worktop, so water would soak into the fabric and cause it to swell.

Some German suppliers are now able to supply undermounted sinks in laminate worktops. These are factory sealed and available with 5 year guaranteed.

Not available to do on site unfortunately.

As others have said, you cant because there is no good way to seal the worktop from water ingress.

You can, however, have a flush inset sink, which will give a similar look.

And to be honest wouldn't you expect your fancy sink and worktop to last a little longer than the 5 years even if it did come ready mounted?

Undermount sinks are a permanent fixture and have to be done correctly even if fitted under the material of choice, granite or Quartz.
And not least important is choice of sink bowls them selves, there are an awful lot of very cheap looking bowls online and given it is a permanent install the choice has to be right.

Solid timber counter tops are not an awful lot more expensive than good quality laminate so you takes your choice, depends if we are talking already fitted tops, if so then stick with top mounted/inset as others have said.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    .

So what Guarantee would you expect cyclone ? 10, 25, 100, a million years.

Anything more than statutory right is a statement of confidence from the manufacturer.

Good quality laminated worktops are now available that WILL accept an undermounted sink provided the fabricator is geared up to rout, seal and fit them correctly. Few "fitters" have the facilities required hence it's a factory fitted product and consequently it will cost. Personally live by the adage that other than immortality anything is possible if your pockets are deep enough. :rotfl:

Dekker a dutch company with retailers in the uk will certainly do it, very effectively.

Most quality laminate tops, the German stuff I replaced a couple of years ago for example should last 15 to 20 years, mine did 17, so please don't be quite so flippant:p:p.

So folks advice is based on why quarter the life expectancy of laminate by installing an under mounted sink?

  • Flippant ???

It was a fair and reasonable question in response to a ridiculous statement.

Expectation is a personal emotion. Just because you have a worksurface that "lasted" 17 years is no reason to suggest that a guarantee on it's replacement should cover a similar period. You may hope that it would but your hope is not relevant. It's like suggesting I once bought a pair of shoes, never wore them, had them for 32 years and they looked as good as the day I bought them, I now expect every pair I buy to look perfect in 32 years time whether I wear them or I don't.

    Opinion however is rather different........

My opinion is that a five year guarantee on any product used within the home is perfectly reasonable. I'm entitled to my opinion and you are entitled to yours Sir. However my opinion and expectations are reasonable.

We have all seen products with totally unreasonable "lifetime" guarantees that have so many caveats that they are worthless.
Guaranteed until you cheque has cleared is probably the most honest guarantee you will ever be offered.

Rather aggressive 1st posts though aren't they Miss. Calling me ridiculous doesn't help either.

Ask anyone how long they expect there brand new Kitchen/worktops to last, it will be somewhere between my "over 5 years" and your "100 million years" if that wasn't flippant but serious of course

And lets be fair here we are talking minimum expectations, not expiry dates that are just outside warranty. We are talking hacking into a worktop made of sawdust and glue and expecting it to last when being drenched in water many times per day. Then giving a laminate that probably had a 10 year warranty a 5 year one.

You also seem to forget that this isn't a product used within the home ie, the building, once fitted it forms part of the home for insurance and practical purposes etc.

So you have your views and opinions, and leave it at that without trying to trash other peoples. The OP gets the lot and makes his/her mind up
