And I'm not convinced that the perceived build quality is anything to write home about either.
Yes, they'll last the course, but they're much more rattly and with less sound deadening.
None of which actually reflects real build quality, but as people up to this point have been doing the usual VW-owner trick of equating soft-touch plastics with decent build I thought I'd be consistent.0 -

I like many I suspect always equated vw with high build quality also and when seeking a replacement for my ford grand cmax was very impressed with the golf I looked at and test drove at the dealers.I had intended replacing the ford with another but due to myself no longer being licenced to drive and my wife doing the driving but needing an automatic due to her dodgy left hip we were taken with the vw golf 1.4 tsi with dsg gearbox.
I have one on order with delivery for september (hopefully).Of course after ordering I then looked online at various vw forums and noticed the dsg gearbox has some well known problems at least until 2012 so I do hope they are sorted by now.0 -
Unless I am mistaken the Skoda Octavia is based on the VW Jetta, the Superb is based on the Passat.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

I was just thinking I'd be tempted to go for an Octavia vRS rather than a TOTR Passat; much better car IMO, and we've found Octavias more reliable than other VAG stuff in the past.💙💛 💔0 -

The latest Octavia, Golf, Passat, Audi A3 and Seat Leon are all based on the same VAG MQB modular platform.
And the main advantage of a modular platform is, er... well.. not much really, it just saves the manufacturer a lot of £$€. It may also reduce weight."Retail is for suckers"

Just come back to this after a while, thought it had disappeared well sown the threads.
Have ordered the Passat executive 2.0 TDI, is a lot better looking than it used to be and seeing they are changing the models soon, they seem to be throwing in a few more whisteles and bells.
I had a look at the Octavia and it was nice, almost the same as the Passat, although based on the Golf chassis. Thing that put me off was the OH said he would not go out in it, with it being a Skoda, daft but well?
The Lexus just didn't seem to be right to me. The interior is Lovley, the version I was optioned on, was only the base line model, so it didn't have all the extras and the boot was tiny. I also didn't like the engine noise, hated that I couldn't hear the gears changing and the revs seemed very high.
Comment I made about the Lease co driver was about the corolla Vesro I had delievered. It just seemed to be an old mans car, when I saw it delivered, although the other week I drove the new 14 plate version, when my Avensis went in for the 3rd go at fixing the Air con ( which has packed up again today:mad: ) I am sure the lease co wont pay out to fix it, as is due back in 2 months.
The new verso seemed so much nicer and had a lot better equipment in it.
In general, it seems that the Passat is a decent choice, maybe a little staid in its ways, but well built and reliable. I don't mind, anything after this Avensis, which is a pile of cack as far as I am concerned.
At least I will have a warm Bum in the winter this year, with the heated leather seats ! lol
Thanks for all the advice guys0 -

I've got an Octavia vRS petrol version my FIL (who is 70) has a Passat 2.0 TDI, both are nice cars, big boots and well put together. The Passat has more legroom in the back but to be honest if I wanted more legroom I would go for a Superb. The Passat is an old blokes car (or for reps who don't like cars)
My vRS came with lots of toys as standard, it seems VW sees a lot of these as extras and charges accordingly."We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

We have investments in the taxi trade, and run Octavias and Caddy Maxi, as well as a few Transporters.
The Superb has now replaced the Merc E's on the exec fleet around 2 years ago, and they've been brilliant value for money, with a number of customers saying about the extra legroom.
Ours are all in bargain basement spec (1.6 TDi etc, and the Superbs being the cheapest spec possible with leather seats) but for economy and reliability, you can't go far wrong with Skoda now.💙💛 💔0
