Passat is a bit grim to look at, both inside and outside.

Always feel like they need tartan blankets and tissue boxes on the parcel shelf.

Here is the 2011 vs 2015 model..

I had a Passat as a company car. Loved it.

Passats are fine if a little dull to drive with dreary interiors, although the new blue motion ones will do 90 in second gear ;), fine for hacking up and down the motorway as a company car but I wouldn't use my own money on one.

I had a Passat 2.0 TD Highline (2008 model) and have just changed to a brand new Focus ST2, my wife just got a brand new Ford Kuga Titanium
The Passat was miles ahead of the Ford on build quality and it had done 98,000 miles
Both Fords have stupid rattles / squeeks (neither have hit 2,000 miles yet) the Passat was silent and the lather was far better quality.
On the Passat everything worked perfectly and whilst they may "look" a bit spartan, everything you need is at your fingertips and just feels right. On the Fords navigating the computers is a pain in the neck and dont even get me started on the Gear change indicator that wants me to change up at just under 2K revs on a 250 bhp hot hatch and "kills" petals on the eco meter if you dont.
If it was my money I would be back with VW in an instant.

    Hi All.

On another thread I asked if the choices I was making on a new lease car were good or not.
After driving a version of the one I wanted to get this week, I was totally put off it . ( TRied a Lexus CT200h and spent 20 minutes trying to get it to reverse, something to do with the key fob and some security I didn't follow! Lol )

Decided on a Passat saloon Executive 2.0 tdi, with full leather spec.

Any Passat drivers out there who can give an honest appraisal of the car. Only used to Fords and Toyotas for such a long time. The last non ford/Toyota I had was a Vauxhall astra Belmont years ago !

How did you find the Lexus (other than reverse!)? I'm shortlisting a few cars to look at after summer and that one was high on the list (the face lifted model). Also quite like the Chevvy Volt although not many around

A colleague had gone from a 1998 Passat to an IS250 (2006) , the Lexus has a lot of comfort stuff, that are only just appearing on cars now, however he does not fully like the car gear changes is one thing (manual) he says it's not a smooth to gear change as on his 98 passat.
You may well have to go and have a good drive in all the cars you are considering.
  • Passats are great, the fit and finish is superb. However, don't ignore the Skoda Octavia, same engine range, gearbox, build quality and a couple of grand cheaper

    And considerably smaller.
