Apple TV is designed to interact with other Apple devices and iTunes to stream content to your TV. You can also use it to mirror what's on your iPad or iPhone etc. Netflix is also available to stream movies, TV shows etc. Netflix, iTunes all require you to purchase stuff.

Thank you, that's what I wanted to know.
So you would have the internet (from the iPhone) on the TV.

If you're using mirroring then yes although it does depend on how new your iPhone is. Some of the earlier models won't allow AirPlay.

Is there a particular reason for wanting the internet on your TV?

I can buy an Apple TV unit (latest) cheap as someone bought one for cartoon HD & now it's been turned off.
They already have a smart TV.

There is certainly nothing to prevent you buying this product, but it will add very little functionality to your current Sky set up.

It would only be genuinely useful if you were to cancel Sky.

Yes but you're still not telling us your reason for wanting internet on your TV.

It's difficult to help you unless you give us more exact information.

If anyone thinks Sky are bad, you want (don't) to try Apple. They charge you for everything.

A very wide-ranging and grossly inaccurate statement. I'd forgotten all Sky content was free also.

My daughter has a smart TV she can look at her photos in 42 inch, she can access utube (I think) on it. The internet in general.
With Apple TV I could play the hundreds of songs stored on my phone via the TV.

    Hello Mrs E !

Surprised you are here as you had posted you were leaving! What a nice surprise ! :j

Anyway I take it your phone is an iphone. If so as far as I am aware Apple like to just have connectivity between Apple based interfaces. As such best bet would be to get Apple tv .. Or load the music on icloud and play it through another device such as an ipad. (Great for taking everywhere and much better sound in my opinion than the iphone -certainly in my experience anyway).

    I love Apple products.

Bingo! You can do all these things with an AppleTV and compatible iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone.
