Apple TV turn normal TV into smart TV?

As per the title will Apple TV turn a normal TV into smart TV?

Also the normal TV only has one HDMI socket, so I would get a switcher with removeable cables as the TV cables are burried in the wall.
So I could get switcher & park on the sky box which is in the alcove & where cables feed into.

What smart features are you looking for over and above the catch up players on your sky box?

Since OP may not have a Sky+HD, the Sky Catch Up Service may not be available to her.

If I was in the same position, therefore, I'd spend the money on a new Sky decoder rather than on Apple TV. A much cheaper option which Sky may even subsidise further.

OP should note that an internet connection is required for both Sky and Apple.

    I don't know.

Would Apple TV do anything that my sky+HD box doesn't.

I think you really need to work out what you want to do and then see what can do it.

An Apple TV and a Sky+Hd box are two entirely different types of box.

Apple TV is designed to interact with other Apple devices and iTunes to stream content to your TV. You can also use it to mirror what's on your iPad or iPhone etc. Netflix is also available to stream movies, TV shows etc. Netflix, iTunes all require you to purchase stuff.

Sky+HD obviously gives you access to all of Sky's content which you can record. Its catch up facility also allows access to BBC iplayer, ITV player, 5 on Demand etc. You can also access Movies on demand and TV Box sets according to your subscription. There is no extra charge for this.

Both boxes require an internet connection as would a smart TV.

Now what do you want to do?

If anyone thinks Sky are bad, you want (don't) to try Apple. They charge you for everything.
