Moving house-Do I cancel Sky and get new contract?

Hi All,
Not sure if this is the correct thread but I'm moving house in a couple of weeks and wonder what the best way to get a new deal for sky would be.Ive been with them years and (Lazily) havent negotiated a deal in the last few, so have an old 1GB box(HD) and am paying £37 pcm.
Should/Can I totally cancel my existing contract and start as a 'new' customer in my new property getting the 50%off 1st year deal etc?
Also goes for any other utility contracts!
Thanks in advance
Matt

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.
I’ve moved your thread from the ‘I wanna’ board to the ‘TV Moneysaving’ board, where it is better suited.

Ok many thanks.
Anyone got a suggestion for my sky deal?

I would indeed cancel now and order new facilties at your new home.
Take your spare kit that you own with you.
Only downside to this is you may be due a couple of weeks payment as 31 days notice required.
I think you could downgrade immediately to the cheapest package and still put in the cancelation request.0 -
In order to open a new contract you would need to agree that neither you nor anyone else in your household ever had a sky contract before, which you clearly have and could be reported to fraud prevention agencies and be billed for any new equipment as per sky's terms and cinditions0

as its a new install put it in your partners name at the new address, whats sky going todo.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Many Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I think I'm gonna call sky and be straight up with them, but request I cancel and see what they offer!
What's the best deal I can expect? I don't need movies or sports really, but do like HD channels

A "smarter" move might be to have your partner (for example) sign up as a new customer at the new house. Technically, this isn't allowed-but how are Sky going to know if it's a different person at a different address with a different bank account?0 -
When I moved, I cancelled my SKY account and signed up under my wife's name as new customer without any issues. I also got decent cashback from TCB.0

Nonsense. Closing a Sky account does not mean that you can never open a new one. I've had several Sky accounts over the years from deciding it was too expensive, and then deciding I wanted it again.
Easiest way is to set up new account in partner's name, but if you don't want to do that I'd cancel with the explanation that you don't think you can afford it anymore at your new home, and then phone them in a couple of months to explain you've changed your mind and open a new account.
Alternatively get them to move your services and then cancel. Any time I've cancelled in the past barely a month has passed before the desperate 'come back' letters appear offering up to 75% off for a year...0 -
Thanks again for the replies. I just called them and considering I'm currently paying £37 per month they offered me a new 2tb box a free house move on the same package as before for £25.
Seems ok and will be a simple seem less move. I'm a bit stuck as there is no other providers for my new address so I can't fight one off against the other.
Thoughts?
