Neighbour is tenant from hell ........ Help !!!

I live in a row of terraced houses. The couple next door are young girls 19/20. They just seem to come every few weeks and party. It could be a mon night , not even the weekend. My husband and I both work and they party all night, sometimes night and day for 3 days. The music is horrendous. I have asked them only once to turn the music down. The person on the other side of them has contacted the letting agent around 4 times and the police a few times regarding the noise. I am also renting and feel maybe I should look elsewhere, but I'm tied to my tenancy until march 2015. My own landlord is very good. He has phoned the neighbours letting agent, but they said it was nothing to do with them and to phone the council noise helpline.
My own landlord has reported it to police also. Don't get me wrong I don't mind a party but not every few weeks for days at a time. Can anyone advise me and my landlord as I'm shattered through lack of sleep !

Call the police, and report it to the council.

Do you get up for work early? Why not blast music or TV back and wake them up?

This isn't going to help in the long run (though it would be very satisfying at first!) As previous posters have said you need to report them to the police and council. Dial 101 and keep reporting them to the police. I had trouble with the local "youff" at my last place. The police had a "quiet word" with those concerned and I was never bothered again. Good luck to you and I hope you are sleeping soundly again soon :D

Are these girls the tenants? Are they living in the property full time or are they just there every few weeks? I ask a LL might not be happy that their property is regularly left unoccupied for weeks at a time and that might be another angle to come at it from.

If you aren't getting anywhere with the LA then perhaps it's time to contact the LL. You should be able to get their details from the Land Regsitery or Registers of Scotland depending on where the location of the property.

If the property is in Scotland then the LL has a legal responsibility to ensure that his/her tenants are not causing a nuiscance to the neighbours.

Have you tried speaking with these girls? I have a noisy neighbour upstairs and I went and spoke to him last week and so far so good. He was very apologetic but then again he had a !!!!ed off Weegie banging on his door.

It seems to be just a party house. They are gone for maybe 1 week or 19 days then back around 12 or 1 in the morning and party party.... The girl who has the tenancy is in and out of a mental hospital. So my tenants ( as am I ) are wary of antagonising her.... Also they are on drugs as there are needles left lying in the path at her front door along with half eaten food and take away cartons. I reported this to the letting agent who said she went down and couldn't see anything. She's not helpful at all. I called the local police last fri and quoting the neighbour in the other sides crime reference no stating I also wanted to make a complaint but no one has called me back !!!
My tenants didn't report it earlier on as they were scared of making an enemy of this girl, but it's now become unbearable as they can't stick it any longer.
I would love to contact the landlord but the letting agent would not disclose his name or number.

    Take photographs
Finding out who owns the house would take five minutes on the land registry website and less than a fiver. Might be a good investment.

You don't mention having spoken to the council noise dept yet- Have you not done this ?

Get them to keep a diary about it as well as keeping on at the police and taking photos if they can of anything that supports what they're saying (e.g. the evidence of drugs). Also I think they should be able to report the needles to the council (you can in our area, but not sure if that's just on public land), so they could get them to confirm if/when they've been to collect them.

Include as much information as possible in the diary - obviously times, dates etc and the type of noise, but also information about how it's affecting them at the specific time (e.g. disturbing sleep) and how it's making them feel. We had a noise issue in the past and we were told to keep information like that - rating how bad the noise was each time for example. They could also include information about when they (or you) have contacted the police or letting agent so that there is evidence that you've tried doing something about it.

I agree with Duchy, take photos of the needles left lying around outside.
Send the photos to the police and council.

Keep contacting the police and council about the noise.

    Keep a noise diary.

If the noise is really loud maybe you can take a recording aswell as evidence. Use an app on your phone if you have one. Same with using your phone to photograph the needles as its not obvious that you are taking a photo then.
Are there children living nearby? Needles are extremely hazardous. Could get council and police doing something a bit faster.

Finally, thank goodness you are just renting and not tied down to that house.
