There were no cash machines nearby, except ones which charge something like £1.75 for withdrawals. If the places accepts card then I will use it as I personally find this easier than going to withdraw more cash.
I use contactless all the time....if the organization has the facility then the customer has the option to use it..
The benefits must be good on both side ?
Less money in the tills
Less money for me to lose on the stagger home ?0 -

At this point - from my experience - most bartenders will say "can I use contactless" to which I always reply yes. However in this case the guy goes to insert the card. I tell him it's a contactless card so he can just touch it. He replies "we don't do that here".
The policy in the local bars around where I live seem to be:
Minimum card transaction value £5
Contactless accepted for combined drink and hot meal purchases.
Contactless NOT accepted for purchases which are purely drink.
I can only guess its for when you order drinks whilst struggling to stand up. The next day when you are sober, you might complain to the bank you never made those transactions and want them refunded? More difficult to refund a CNP transaction?0 -
I would be very wary in handing your card over in a pub with sleigh of hand it could be cloned. Take the reader off the bar person and key the pin in or just swipe and hand the read back once it says remove the cardDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

The WH Smith in Heathrow Central Bus Station has Contactless, but staff have been told not to take it.
If you're ever there, notice how the staff will not 'activate' the card reader (by pressing a button on the till) until you've insert your card.
Not sure why.0 -
Forgot to take your pills?
If you don't like any aspect of your banking arrangements move to elsewhere - where is your evidence of being FORCED?Having been FORCED into having a contactless card by the "You simply must, its the next safest thing since Internet banking" bank. I now have to carry my card in a metallic wallet designed to stop such unwanted transactions with the wave of my card. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The machine may be a new one which can support contactless but it doesnt mean they have it enabled. All that glitters is not gold.0

The evidence I had of being FORCED into a contactless card was when my bank issued a replacement card with the contactless feature, on telling them I did not want that feature, they told me that in order to NOT have a contactless card, I would have to downgrade my account to a basic account.
I am not even sure if there are alternative bank accounts that offer the same as my current account, without needing a contactless card. I am certainly not wanting to run around looking for a lesser account as a result of having no choice but to have a contactless, not when I can simply refuse to activate the contactless feature.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

What makes you think the terminal hasn't been tampered with? It could very easily record your card number and expiry date for someone to use online - not everywhere asks for the CVV. Even if it hasn't been tampered with, sometimes those details are stored on the retailers systems or printed out in the audit log.
Not really much more chance of the card being cloned if you don't let it out of your sight.0
