Having been FORCED into having a contactless card by the "You simply must, its the next safest thing since Internet banking" bank. I now have to carry my card in a metallic wallet designed to stop such unwanted transactions with the wave of my card.
Have to carry your contactless card in a metalic wallet? Do you think you can magically wave your contactless card in the air and it will take money from your account?
Your card has to be 4mm of the front of device before it activates the contactless feature and takes payment.
I personally find the contactless feature on my cards to be a great idea and has been very useful quite a number of times.
I'm very disappointed that the only cards I have that don't have it are my Nationwide ones.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Maybe they-like me-don't trust them-especially waved around in a bar where some of the tipsy customers may later argue that it wasn't their transaction that was charged for, but the person next to them. I wouldn't want to use mine in a bar-come to that-I simply do not even want to use it!Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

I saw someone in ASDA paying for a newspaper and a tube of polo mints by credit card! There really should be limits!
What is wrong with that? Credit cards provide an excellent spending diary, maybe the person in ASDA wanted to track every single penny. I use my Barclaycard for the smallest of things, a pint of beer, a coffee and even to pay for parking. As well as avoiding the inconvenience of counting out money I get Cashback on every purchase.Money is a wise mans religion0 -
Bring back the days when a CC purchase included my name in the form of a unique signature and not some pin number
You mean that ultra secure system that involves the card having a sample of your signature for the thief to copy when they steal the card? That one?
Yeah, great idea that was.
How am I supposed to prove it wasn't me when a thief has taken the time to practice my signature?
I don't sign any of my cards these days. Aside from it being rare for anyone to look at my card other than me, I don't want to give away a copy of my signature. I'd rather the thief just sign the card and go spending with a signature that clearly isn't mine.
I just write "PIN Only" on the signature strip now.0 -
Carry more cash.
Is this what we've become? Paying for drinks with contactless cards?
In fact I did have cash, but I had already made a couple of purchases that evening and had run out. There were no cash machines nearby, except ones which charge something like £1.75 for withdrawals. If the places accepts card then I will use it as I personally find this easier than going to withdraw more cash.0 -

How long before criminals develop a hand-held machine, and someone just accidentally bumps into you in a crowded tube? Whoops - there's £1000 taken out of your account. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I've had a contactless payment taken inadvertently by a self-service till when the card was in my wallet, about 5-10cm away from the reader (which I am assured is impossible).
The only reason I knew payment had been taken was when the receipt spat out. I wonder how many other times it has happened and I haven't noticed?
I'm not quite wearing a tin-foil hat yet, but it's very concerning.0 -

Isn't the limit like £20?0 -

I wondered almost immediately afterwards what he would have said/done if I had just touched my card on the reader while it was in his hand.
It's possible that it would have so confused the terminal that it would have refused to accept the card at all, even with a PIN, particularly if he pressed the wrong buttons trying to recover from it/make it work
Happened to me in Lidl0 -

Transaction limit of £20, PIN verification required after a few transactions. Then they have to process the transaction as a merchant (i.e. the banks will know who they are).
One other benefit of contactless is the fact that each PIN entry is a security risk.
More traditional methods of card fraud (ATM fraud, skimming, etc.) are much more profitable.0
