Don't be too persuaded by glossy showroom shine, that'll soon wear off.
What do you want/need from a car? You're comparing chalk with cheese here.
You do post a lot of drivel, op wants a tt who said anything about a family car.0 -
If your beemer is using water, you have a leak, or probably more likely due to needing to replace a burst hose, its overheated at some point and needs more radical surgery. (The uneven idle gives a hint too). Unfortunately cooking e46s are readily available and cheap, so going the whole hog of changing the head gasket, refurbing the radiator and replacing the waterpump, unless your doing it yourself doesn't really make sense.
Trade it in for a newer BMW.0 -
Keep the BMWThinking about buying newer shiny cars always seems to fuzz my brain.......
I look at my older not shiny car, it needs tyres, it needs a service, and the MOT is due in 5 months......what will they find wrong? Lets not take the chance, lets not spend the money on my old 'in my head banger' car, lets put it towards a newer shiny really reliable car.
£4500 later and fuzz has gone......I think......
My new car is amazing, uses a bit more fuel, but hey that's no big deal, apart from that it's perfect, and still shiny.
A year down the line and the dreaded MOT comes along.....ARGH....tyres, emissions, service, brake pads.....£800 gone, god this car is expensive to run!
Oh and its value has dropped by a grand or so.
That really was an expensive years motoring.
My brain fuzz has really gone, either car was going to cost me, it was just a case of when....
I'm waffling really, I wonder how much your beemer will cost to repair and run for another year or three. If you like it, maybe it is worth a trip to a garage to find out just what is wrong before jumping ship.0 -
From the little experience of the TT (work colleague had one), if you want it, for the love of God make sure it has air con. This chap had a base spec with no air con and it was like hopping into a blast furnace and opening the windows did very little to help.0

Keep the BMWA TT with no aircon? didn't know such a thing was out there?! Was it an import or was the aircon just broke?0

Every year my 15 yr old car needs about £150 spending on it at the MOT..
..and every year the OH keeps saying "why dont we buy a new car.."
And every year my reply is the same.. "why, its cheaper to run this old thing than spend £5000 on something with unknown history.."
I paid £750 for it 6 yrs ago and will probaby get that for it today. OR £2000 if I strip it for parts.0 -

Could have been broken, but I can't recall seeing a button for the air con though.0 -

When you die you can't take the money with you, when you are old, you may be too ill to enjoy the savings, if you die and leave it to somebody, they are not going to love you anymore for it, whether it's a car or something else, there is no point saving money without a view to treating yourself for your hard work.0 -
A TT with 150bhp, that wouldn't pull a randy dog off your mother. At least get one with some guts if you're going to get a TT.
Sounds like you have a tired & neglected E46, but I'd think twice before spending over £5k on an "upgrade" as it will be worth £3500 in a year's time and the lustre will soon wear off.0 -
