There is now an article about OVO IT problems on the Main site here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/utilities/2014/11/it-bug-at-ovo-energy-means-13000-customer-bills-were-wrong
and discussion forum here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5113316
maybe a bit more publicity required to get them to pull their fingers out!:)0 -
I have just been contacted by Lowri Beck on behalf of Ovo to say that my gas meter is due to be replaced and they can if I am willing replace it with a Smart Meter. I have not yet read anything good about them and lots of people are having problems
with Ovo meters cantacting their computers. People also seem to have difficulty getting a meter reading. I haven't yet been able to see what the face of a Smart meter is like. They say they have to change my meter, because that's a legality. Do meters have a shelf life. Can I refuse a smart meter until its mandatory. I already do my own spreadsheet so know where my gas is being used and how much.
Any advice forthcoming.0 -
WhiteHart - I don't think you can be forced to accept a smart meter if you don't want one yet. The change to smart meters does not seem to be a priority with other energy suppliers. The following is copied from Eon's website page on smart meters -
"Smart meters are being rolled out across the UK between now and 2020 - but it’s up to you if you have one. We think they’re a really clever way to help manage your energy usage and reduce your bills. They’re relatively quick to install and simple to use.
All energy companies will be required to install smart meters and take reasonable steps to tell all their customers about them."0 -
Hi
Switching to OVO PAYG+ on Tuesday. Just wondering how I set up my on line account or will OVO send me the details required to log in
PJD1450 -
I too signed up to OVO energy after it appearing as one of the more competitive rates on this site. Last month i received an email advising i would be charged a ONE OFF fee of £33.61 as I had been placed on the wrong tariff for electric. This was despite sending in monthly readings without fail . Then to my shock this week i received another email of my monthly account, they had taken the monthly direct debit, the £33.61 and also £263.63! out of the OVO account i had accumulated thinking this would see us through winter. I was not made aware prior to the email that i had had a total of £414.72 taken in one month! When i rang the call centre yesterday the 15/12/2014 they advised i was one of 13,000 people who had been placed on the wrong tariff! A week before Christmas 13,000 have been notified they have been on the incorrect tariff due to no fault of their own. Surely they have to honour the tariff they first quoted! Use OVO with care!!
I dont seem to be getting anywhere with them. A very sneaky trick enticing people away from their current supplier then changing the tariff they quoted originally.siouxiqueue wrote: »I thought it would be a good idea to switch to OVO. Sadly their admin is not up to scratch. Does not instill any confidence in their delivery ability. I have only just received their confirmation letter, some 3 weeks after originaly application. Their direct debit date is not convenient. I have requested a change and received no reply. I noticed that the amount they want to charge is not competitive with my current supplier. They want to charge me £30 per fuel for the privilege of the inconvenience they have put me through with their tardy administration.
Anyone else experienced these suppliers?:(0 -
End of May - switched to OVO
End of July - meters replaced with (un)smart meters and access to My OVO revoked
August - unable to get anyone at OVO to tell me how to read my meters (I'm on Economy 7)
August - In Home Device (IHD) proving to be a waste of space.
September - after a few partially helpful emails I managed to work out how to read my meters - see below
Late December - My OVO reactivated
Early January - received my first bill - not had the chance to check it yet.
How to read an OVO Smart Meter
Button
1 Usage today - TOTAL kWh used. i.e. NOT split into Day and Night usage.
2 Usage this week - TOTAL kWh used. i.e. NOT split into Day and Night usage.
3 Usage this month - TOTAL kWh used. i.e. NOT split into Day and Night usage.
4 History - last month's TOTAL kWh usage. i.e. NOT split into Day and Night usage.
5 CO2 data
6 Tariff Data (meter reading for Economy 7, displayed as IMP R01 (Night) & IMP R02 (Day)).
Use the IMP R0x that have numbers displayed next.
7 Credit balance (only used for meters in prepayment mode)
8 Debt balance (only used for meters in preayment mode)
9 Meter Reading (will display IMP kWh followed by meter reading.
Will then cycle through other unneeded figures. Pressing B will cycle back)
This figure should be the same as the addition of the 6 Button IMP R01 and IMP R020 -
You could ask OVO if the IHD will fully work to give you any useful information. I had had mine installed nearly 4 weeks ago and it still hasn't got the correct tariffs in nor will it accumulate or display any history. OVO has been honest and tell me that there is a software problem that they are trying to resolve. Had they told me that their system does not work I would not have had the new meters fitted

I have used them and they were okay, however when I switched to Eon I had problems namely that Eon did not provide them with a validated change over meter reading. Which meant that the switch over has dragged on for months and Ovo owe me hundreds of pounds because you have to pay in advance and they continued taking my direct debit until now. Not impressed with either company during switch over which is still not complete.0
