I couldn't care less whether England win, or go out in the first week - makes no difference to me either way. It's just a transient win or loss of no consequence.
I've never quite got why, some team kicking more balls into a goal is of any importance whatsoever.
All I know is that TV and radio is disrupted for weeks on end with no benefit for those who don't like sport.
I've had to 'stock up' on podcasts since Radio 5 Live has become unbearable to listen to, just as it was during the Olympics (yawn)
I don't see why they can't set up a seperate channel for sport on radio and tv for those who find it so thrilling!

there is, its called sky sports (or BT) but Beeb and ITV insisted on keeping the world cup which is such a shame cause it means i have to listen to Chiles and Townsend on ITV and ferdinand on the beeb, give me sky anyday
COME ON ENGLAND0 -
BBC and ITV insist upon it because it's enshrined in LAW that the World Cup is televised on terrestrial TV. I would say to you that I like millions of others cannot stand the poor standard of acting from numerous soaps, nor the incessant squaking of the Loose Women - yet they're still broadcast. It's 4 weeks every other year, build a bridge & get over it already.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

I agree, I don't really watch much TV so can't comment but it's all over the papers etc and I remember last time it was in some if my work colleagues got let home early to watch a game and yet it was compulsory to schedule doctors appointments out of working hours etc.
It's not the game I dislike it's all the hype about it and the assumption that you are following it.
Although I found the rescheduling of the Apprentice v disappointing!0 -

On the bright side unlike the Olympics, it's not in this country so hasn't disrupted 100,000s of lives and wasted billions of pounds of public money.0

There's also the rather charming jibe about Governent concern & the sufferers demonstrating their status by car mounted flags of a red cross on a white background...
Which is keeping my irritation damped down as there's plenty to chuckle at.0 -

I can't stand football. However, I think it is crucially important that major sporting events remain on free to view channels.
Not everyone can afford Sky, then an upgrade to Sky Sport!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
