I now remember why I stopped selling on ebay!

It's far too stressful!!

I started a thread a few days back asking how long was reasonable to wait for the buyer to contact to arrange pick up.....it took them 2 days to reply to my messages.

Something similar is happening now! Sold a dress 24 hours ago, sent invoice immediately with a nice 'congratulations' message and that I would dispatch as soon as payment received. Checked this am, no payment received. Been checking all day, even double checked all of my details in case something was wrong, still no payment. I sent a 2nd invoice after checking all my details, just in case, still no payment.

Am I being really thick here? As soon as payment is received the £ sign illuminates right? I have checked paypal as well, because I have been known to be a bit simple!!

Have to say I find it a bit odd when people do this, when I buy I pay immediately and naively expect the same!!!

So how long do people have to pay? Is there a time limit?

Sorry for all the questions, I stopped selling about 4 years ago due to being scammed then effed over by ebay and I'm a bit rusty!!!

So you have sent 2 emails in 24 hours, that is a bit excessive and may irritate a buyer.

You can open a non paying bidder case after 2 days and close it 4 days later, that gives buyer 6 full days to pay. Buyers are not obligated to pay immediately, perhaps they do not sit at their PC all day. I usually send a basic invoice when item sells, or at some point when I have a moment, send a second invoice usually on about day 3 or 4 and then open an NPB on or about day 4 or 5. If I have any concerns about the buyer I might open an NPB on day 2 but I never harass them by email.

You can actually raise a non paying bidder after two days, but I am also finding that it is taking some of them 3 - 4 days to pay. No idea why you would buy something then not pay for it, but it Fathers Day weekend, so maybe they have gone away.

Personally I would give them until Monday then send another invoice, and raise NPB on Tuesday if no response.

I am sure I am going to be shot down for leaving it so long :rotfl:

I usually pay when the auction ends. The only time I haven't is when I deliberately left it for 24 hours as I knew I wouldn't be at home to take delivery on the estimated delivery date.

soolin I find the suggestion that I've 'harassed' the buyer somewhat insulting, as I explained I did this as I thought some details may be wrong my end. I also don't sit at my computer all day but I like to think I'm conscientious enough to actually hold up my end of the bargain and keep a handle on when things sell, therefore providing good communication. Perhaps I'm not as 'manjana' as some people but I don't think that's a bad thing!!

Charlies_mum thank you for the helpful reply, I will wait until Monday. I just don't get why people do it. You wouldn't walk into Next, pick up a dress, and say to the cashier 'see you on Monday when I can be bothered to pay for it' but hey-ho the world would be boring if we were all the same!

'checking all day' yet you claim in the next post you don't spend all day on the PC.

Two invoices in less than 24 hours? - I'd say that's impatient in the extreme if not quite harassment. You also demonstrated impatience with ebay buyers in your other post 5 days ago.

You ask if we think you are thick, then admit to being simple and naive. I couldn't possibly comment, other than to say it certainly sounds like ebay is not for you.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....
  • I think sending two invoices in less than 24 hours is not a great idea. Personally, I give buyers a couple of days, sometimes three, after invoice, then send a nice message thanking for their purchase and asking if they can let me know if payment's on its way, as I haven't heard from them since they bought the item. Mostly they either pay up straight away after receiving the message, or else they'll reply saying they will be paying in another couple of days or so. Both of which are fine as far as I'm concerned. If I don't get any response at all, I then open NPB on Day 4.

But two invoices in less than 24 hours will be viewed by many as harassment. Can't imagine it'll go down well with your buyer at all.

Personally, if I win an auction, I pay immediately, or as soon as possible, if I'm not on line at the end of the auction. I nearly always pay within 12 hours, and certainly always within 24 hours.

But, what I've learned from doing eBay is, not everyone is the same as me.

For whatever reason, some people think it's ok to wait days before paying.

It is irritating, but I don't give it much thought now. If they haven't paid after two days I send an invoice, and if they still haven't paid after 4 days, I open a case.

I agree with Soolin that two e-mails in 24 hours is pretty excessive. Checking all day to see if it has been paid for sounds like you are getting obsessive about it and maybe turning the situation in to something it is not.

There could be a billion reasons why the buyer has not paid yet. Some people buy on the computer and pay straight away. Some buy on their phone and it takes a while before they can get to the computer to pay. Some people have to wait till they get paid before you get paid.

If they don't pay. Open a case. Relist and block them. Blocking the bad buyers one at a time is all you can really do.

In my experience the bidders who pay *instantly* tend to be the ones who have waited almost until the end of the auction to bid.

I have had to wait (a short time) when the bid has been made early in the listing period - presumably because the bidder knew he/she wouldn't be around at auction end.

I am a buyer, hardly ever sell..

I try to pay as soon as I can, I dont have an internet phone so have to go to laptop. I tend to put in my maximum bid.. mark on the calender when it finsihes and check later.. (very occasionally i watch the count down if i really want the item).

I think in most cases payment is possible withing 24 hours.. but sometimes the person is away, long weekend etc... poorly etc

I wouldn't mind polite reminders after 24 hours, have never had any but it seems reasonable to me ..
