My husband has sent me a few more messages telling me that he's going to pull out. He's a bit indecisive so he might hold out until tomorrow, but I can't be sure on that one! He also told me that it's not worth complaining about, but there is absolutely no way I am letting this one slide! Why should they get away with treating people like cr*p? Even if nothing comes of the complaint, at least I'll know that I tried. I think they are an absolute disgrace.

As you say complaining probably won't go very far.

But if you pull out and want to feel better.

Then Email EA, tell them you are pulling and why. Politely and firmly give it to them both barrels.

Make sure the vendor is CC'd in.

Ultimately these people don't care about complaints, just profit. So if you cost them client, it will hit them where it hurts most. I.e. in the pocket.

Actually that's not a bad idea :) At least they couldn't tell the vendor a load of BS about why we pulled out - he'd have it right there in black and white. In fact we could even send it as a reply to the latest email from them, which is full of more nonsense (including the bit where they essentially blame him for filling the form in badly, even though he had nothing to do with it, and where they start going on again about the gas certificate being sent despite the fact we asked them who the 'landlord' listed on this was, so obviously we've seen it!).

I'm so mad about the whole thing. I've been looking at houses again but there's nothing that catches my eye at all - it's quite depressing! It's a shame that this side of the city has so many terraced houses - I want a proper garden :( I guess I'll just have to try being patient - maybe we can use the money from the old property to get my husband a chauffeur in the meantime! :rotfl:

On the plus side, if we do have any fees to pay they should easily be covered by the £500 refundable deposit we gave the EA and the £300 or so that's waiting at the solicitor to cover the searches, so it won't feel like we've really lost anything.

Why on Earth did you pay a deposit to the estate agent?

Apparently it's to show that you are genuinely interested in the property and not just putting offers on everything you see. May as well have not bothered though it seems, since they've done nothing but moan anyway!

Never heard the like- this lot really are a bunch of useless chancers. Report them as soon as you're shot of them; also might be worth naming and shaming on this thread to warn others off.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!

Will do as soon as we've decided for certain what we are doing. I suspect he will want to send the email tonight and get it over and done with!

I'm seriously gutted - getting sick of the fact we have to base where we live on my husband's workplace too, even though they are constantly moving him. We could end up being in an ideal location and then have him moved at work a few weeks later. It's a nightmare - I'm tempted to make him look for a new job, or even suggest moving elsewhere entirely!

Why do I get the feeling that this "refundable deposit" is about to have some strings attached?

The only money you should give a seller is when contracts are exchanged. In Scotland, no money changes hands until the day of settlement!

    !!!!!! ???????????????

    a) that is not standard practice, you have been fed a line

    b) that makes a complete mockery of the EA's argument that you weren't showing commitment.

Seriously walk away, also let the vendor know they had already been taking money off you for the purchase.

Expect a fight to get the money, but you are entitled to it.

You should have mentioned this earlier, I think less people would have given you a hard time on the other thread had they known this.

The name on the gas cert is irrelevant.

I can understand the landlord not giving notice, but I would not think that they should expect a buyer to take them seriously if they are looking to sell with vacant possession, yet potentially be 5-6 months off getting vacant possession.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.
