PS tell your lovely partner that I keep the ladies in the self checkout aisles well occupied as I'm an utter disaster with them. So no fear of anyone losing their job on my watch.[/QUOTE]
I use to embarrass my children by talking to the rather snooty woman ( and she is snooty in the local lingo too!) who berates me and I always thanked the 'little people' who sit under the weigh plate doing the scanning.....................:D I now use the hand held self scan - pack and shop in one go much quicker!
Recycling rant: It really makes me shout at TV/radio/paper when people complain about bins, with NON recyclable rubbish in, not being collected for 2/3/4 weeks................dont bring it in the house in the first place and manufactures/producers/super markets take responsibility:mad:Be the change you want to see -with apologies to Gandhi

Whilst you are out 'taking it easy' do take a piccy or two of the ladies new coats - would love to see their resplendentness!
Shuffle happened & we are a bit short for the rent, but if we put off paying the water bill & then use the dreaded credit card to do it, that will free up enough cash flow to keep us sheltered!
On the subject of cheese, am I ever glad for our freezer stocks, and the cupboard stocks for that matter - means we can easily cut down the grocery bills for the next few weeks until OH is suitably employed again!
Monday night we used one of the blocks of paneer & made brochettes with beets (see here) - we omitted the sauce but next time will make it - had to add a bit of salt to season as halloumi is quite a bit saltier. Am loving the A&C recipes - lots of flavour with simple ingredients - every single one of their recipes I've made so far has been a keeper.Pippilongstocking wrote: »...*violence is never the answer...

To be honest I don't notice the difference now with the bag tax we have here. It becomes a habit to take your own bags everywhere and less shops offer you a bag now. Probably as they got sick of people complaining about paying 5p for one :rotfl:
I also agree with Igamogam about non recyclable waste. We have a toddler in disposable nappies (:o I know, I know!!!) and we very rarely have a full bin to put out every fortnight. Our recycling bin however goes out every week. A few small changes to your lifestyle add up to big wins for the environment!
Oh dearyou've got me started

Hope the back is on the mend Pippi, you must be getting frustrated. At least you can relax in the new garden and watch the chooks.
RT I've not thought of taking glass jars to a deli before.
I do think most people use fewer bags now, I see lots of people in town with fabric bags or baskets whereas before only very old ladies would be seen with such a thing! In my experience market fruit and veg stallholders are the worst though, unless you throw your bag at them before you even open your mouth they will insist on giving you at least 2 plastic carrier bags.0 -
Pips, is the Super 6 for the next fortnight any good for you? Beware of pack sizing though if doing any comparison shopping/pricing.....#shrinkingsizes.......just saying......

Break up this Friday. OH has a very bad back and is off for an MRI on Tuesday and then later the next week off to see the consultant. Bit stressful here!
Just seen a fab car for DD1, it has been pimped but is more like a hippy on LSD, she loved it think it might be a marmite thing you'll either love it of hate it. Anyway off to bedfordshire.

Pippi - glad to see your getting around a bit better, you make sure you take care.
I agree re the carrier bags, the amount that cashiers try to use, we take big bags for main supermarket shopping, when we go across the border to wales, we always use our bags very rare we buy one, we've managed ok.
ditto with our recycling as much as possible gets recycled, go to Asda weekly to take the plastics en-route for the milk run. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Morning folks, having a scunner of a mood day today.
Lots to try and do but lets face facts me and me back aren't getting any younger so I'm taking my time and slowly plodding along.
Had a wee walk earlier which seems to help.
(Sorry a bit me, me, me ish) at the mo.
Waves a hearty good morning to you kind and lovely folks. As Dear Greying (thanks for the supersix list - most interesting this week) I appreciate you all very much.
I mean who else would I natter too?
Angels the lot of you.
Heads a bit mince this morn. Need to give myself a shake, and I do have a cunning plan to try and move me sorry a$$ forward of a kind.
M21 well done on all that hard recycling and bag action! You know its hard work remembering but its so worth it isn't it?
Lu - I'm so sorry to hear about your fella - fingers crossed for the consultant and MRI poor chap. The DD's impending car sounds interesting - colour??
(lobs Lu some parental sunglasses)
Greying thanks for the supersix! I'm quite shrunken myself and wish to continue to shrink so maybe a wee reduced portion is just what I need. Much appreciate you sharing the link. And thanks to Lynsey for posting it too.
Waves hello to Trog - how are you and the lovely family. I'd not thought of taking a jar to the deli before either - GENIUS RT, utter GENIUS. I have a whole day tomorrow gazing at the chooks who are not a fan of this up and out early in the morning with the hounds and the manchild. Tomorrow I will pamper them like princesses.
Starnac I think welsh wales bag consumption went down by 80% in the first wee while and continues to drop. WELL DONE WALES.
They reckon (some environmental analyst on Radio LandofScots) that overall in the UK consumption is on the way up and still rising.
They expect the bag tax to have a simiilar impact quite quickly here and expect a 75% reduction. Carrots (green points for reusable bags) seem to work a bit but the stick of a charge seems to be the way forward.
A lot of retailers seem to be quite grumpy about it all as its more work. I had an interesting conversation with a wee retailer in a town near me who's simply said, we're considering just not supplying bags. Easier than the tax. Another genius idea. I guess it will only be once or twice folks have to use their 'arms' before they remember to take a bag to that shop.
I wonder if she was serious?
RT I wonder how they're react here if you took a jar. (Totally genius by the way) I spoke to someone at work about this and they thought the retailers might state envir/health issues of putting their grub into an unknown (and I'm sure you wash it well) jar. But as they don't know how we store it after surely the responsibility is with the purchaser?
Giggling at black eyes.
As always your cheese stash has provided, I'm so pleased and like greying your meals sound awesome.
Friday shots of the lasses I promise or maybe even later today. I'm itching to let them rampage around the garden, but until we're gated at all ends, nae chance.Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Reduce is as the start of the mantra (reduce, reuse, recycle, reclaim) for a reason isn't it.
Not rocket science that one.
Totally agree with you.
I read an interesting article about circular economies (go with me here) and that in closed loop systems the ultimate goal is reduce/ re-use/reclaim of everything.
I guess on a household level its kinda a long way to what we'd like to achieve at home.
Kinda why we bought a fizzy pop machine. A kinda 'pre-cycling' - make the pop at home, no bottles to recycle, gets rid of the 'bottle' issue before its borne.
There's a grand book out there older now but great ideas.
Precycling. - I know its a funky-dunky name for what seems like common sense. But where would life be without pre-cycling, upcycling etc.
Make do and mend I suspect covers it.
(tottles off to find link for the book)
