I know the grammar police are meant to refrain from commenting on this forum, but for someone aspiring to a Law career the OP seems to have a bit of trouble differentiating between 'to' and 'too', and her apostrophe usage (or lack of) is somewhat erratic.

Maybe such things don't matter these days?

I only throw that into the pot in the light of the discussion point regarding how intelligent/academic she is.

As regards her situation, I can't imagine how she will cope with a new baby and intensive study requirements, and just hope she doesn't get herself into a position where neither receive the attention they require. No-one should go into parenthood with no financial or family support, let alone taking on a challenging degree course at the same time.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I think the likelihood of not returning to her studies could be as high.

We're obviously not going to think the same about the two options.

I think that if someone was put off going to uni because of a gap year (when she would have matured a lot through being a mother and learned a lot of useful transferrable skills), she probably wouldn't have lasted the course anyway.

At 8 weeks pregnant, with no partner, and a good Uni place lined up for a few months time I know what I would be recommending for my own daughter.

Are scans routinely offered at 6 - 8 weeks now ?

No they are not. I find this puzzling, together with the fact that the OP has not been back since the first day of posting....

12 week dating scan is first routine. Heart beat cannot be guaranteed heard before that unless its an internal scan. They used to scan earlier but it upset people as there's nothing worse than not detecting a heartbeat so they use 12 weeks for that reason, dating and nuchal fold measurement.

I've heard of transvag scans but thought they were usually only offered where there has been a bleed or a history of early miscarriage.
My SIL had one because she'd had fertility treatment.

However when I told her I was pregnant she has said that even if i go to this uni i will have to make other living arrangements because she doesn't want this "thing" under her roof! she can be very mean at times and this has been going on for 6 weeks so really don't think shes going to change her mind :(

So, less a matter of 'the scan', but sadly, more a case of financial necessity.

Do you know every single student at Oxford?!! How can you make such a sweeping statement?.

Sweeping statement? I said that I knew of no-one who did. That is a statement of fact, not a "sweeping statement".

If you have to invent things that people did not say, to argue about, it's probably best that you don't bother.

I despair of the quality of debate on here sometimes...
