Jeez, we work Sundays and set our franking machine to date for the Monday. Items go in a sack and the sacks are tagged shut on the Sunday. If we didn't mark them as dispatched before they go in the sack on the Sunday, how the hole would we know what to mark dispatched on the Monday???

Penalising the seller when you don't understand the system is a poor show. Using eBay postage does not 'allow' the seller to mark an item as dispatched it does it automatically. The same happens if you add the tracking after buying labels from MyHermes or any other courier.

I do understand the system. The system is unfair. It wouldn't be if eBay didn't score ratings on dispatch. How can it be right to mark 'dispatched' just by sticking on a label? Do you honestly think casual buyers know all the ins and outs of eBay and rate accordingly? I have items to post tomorrow, but I would not consider marking them dispatched until deposited physically with post office and in the system. Anyway, giving a 4 star rating is not the end of the world, and hardly 'penalising' in a rating system of 1-5. Clearly everyone posting here is a business seller - and therein lies the problem. I am being slated for admitting I rate 4* for inaccurate dispatch, but this is down to eBay not having facilities for accurate dispatch notification and a ridiculous rating system. Don't shoot the messenger....

Well therein lays your problem. From your perspective the "mark as dispatch" function is something that emails the buyer to let them know. It isn't. It's a function of the order processing system, which updates the database that the item has been processed by the seller and the function to email the buyer with this information is secondary to that.

My problem? Really? No need for email to buyer then. eBay sends email to purchaser saying item dispatched - if what you say is correct, email should be reworded. What's the point of it otherwise?

So your answer to what you yourself admit is a ridiculous rating system is to mark down sellers unfairly because you can?

I am primarily a buyer and think quite frankly your attitude stinks , its no wonder so many good sellers, private and otherwise lose their ability to sell on ebay.

If i buy an item that is not dispatched within the given timeframe then i may mark the seller down, dependant on the overall transaction.

You do realise the dispatch star if for "How quickly did the seller dispatch the item?" and if they dispatch within the given timeframe of the listing then anything other than a 5* is unfair.

I do hope your not one of those buyers who give a 3* for items just because its ok and not fab or wrong.

It is not penalizing to mark someone as 4 which means item despatched quickly (rather than very quickly). I generally give 5s all round unless major hiccup. All I'm saying is that for some reason (and clearly I'm not alone as Soolin refers to someone else) it irks me to see something dispatched Sunday when it is not. It's not tit for tat, or revenge or anything. It's just not perfect.

Would you find it "Irks You" if you knew that big companies like e-buyer, when it says "order being processed from other warehouse", it really means the item is ordered from their supplier. However, because it's eBay, and any member of the public can have a go at selling, some "special rules" like only marking as dispatched when it's in the hands of the post office apply, even though bigger companies don't even go to the post office.

So marking down a seller because an item is marked as dispatched on say a sunday instead of the monday is a major hiccup?

    Wow just wow!!!!!!

Under the new system, this is correct. Under the old DSR system, an average rating of 4.6 or less would lead to below standard, so your 4 would be penalising a seller.

Anyway, I'm not contributing to this thread anymore. There's more useful things to spend my time on than a vindictive seller who penalises other sellers using their warped interpetation of the star system.
