Do seller get penalized if they don't mark item as dispatched.

I just received an email saying update for your purchase but this is the message I received from the seller.

Your order will be marked as dispatched as soon as full payment is received. This does not mean your order will be dispatched immediately. It will be dispatched within 24 hours, however this exclude weekends or bank holidays.

No. Sellers usually have about at least 2 days to despatch. I click item shipped button when I have packaged up items so I know they have been done. Big sellers need to package up many sales.

Sellers have whatever time is specified in the dispatch details on their listing to dispatch. Sellers offering same day or next day dispatch certainly don't have "usually about 2 days".

Also, if a seller uses the eBay postage system to buy the shipping service, eBay will automatically mark the item as dispatched as soon as the postage is purchased. Not when the item is actually dropped off at the postage depot / collected.
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
  • I also mark as dispatched as I pack up late afternoon to the end of the evening and all my sales are dropped off at the post office at 6.30am the following morning
I just put the following day in the date dispatched box as I physically wouldn't have time to pack everything and mark as dispatched the morning of posting

If you import your orders to the Hermes website it also marks as dispatched and adds the tracking info for you. I was impressed, quite time saving.

I always used to print off eBay postage for all my items, even if someone bought at say4pm and I was not sending until next day, and knew this marked it as dispatched.

However, I have been very worried about this recently ever since we had a regular user here on MSE who claimed if a seller did that she would mark them down automatically to a low * for dispatch and possibly even mark them down in feedback as well. This was the same user who claimed last year that her lawyers had assured her that eBay would not be implementing the Policy of charging FVFs on postage. She hasn't posted here since the implementation of FVFs on postage, but even if she was a bit unusual it worried me that there might be others like her.

Out of necessity though I have started printing my postage and consequently having it marked as dispatched on some items And hope buyers have the brains to work out that something marked as dispatched at 4pm on a Sunday, for instance, isn't going to be sent until next day.

There are some vindictive a holes out there . I added a note to the dispatch email politely saying that if you are getting this message at an unusual time (ie in an evening or on a Sunday) your item is packed and ready to go to the post office first thing in the morning.
    Worked for me so far

I have ordered stuff on a Sunday evening and had the item marked as dispatched a couple have even sent tracking numbers.

Obvious that they have not actually sent it yet. But it may save some people asking if they have posted it yet.

I dont really take much notice of delivery times. If its something i want urgently i will contact them 1st or just buy locally.

The only time i watch the dates are items from outside the UK that may go over the claim limit timeframe.

Am I right in thinking that you will be able to see who leaves you low stars in the update in august?
